JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Andras Hajnal in the Neural and Behavioral Sciences Department at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey PA. We are seeking a scholar at all levels with research interests in the neural and hormonal mechanisms of gut-brain communication, as well as brain circuits that modulate taste and reward functions, stress vulnerability, obesity, and substance use.

The scholar will work on a funded project investigating the effects of bariatric surgery and gastrointestinal manipulations on neural, hormonal, and behavioral improvements in a rat model of spinal cord injury. The successful applicant should have experience and skills in behavioral, molecular, pharmacological, and electrophysiological techniques, as well as expertise in cranial and abdominal surgeries in rodents.

The primary responsibilities of this role include designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and preparing manuscripts for publication. Additional duties involve serving as a liaison with Core Services, collaborating with internal and external partners, and assisting with the training and mentoring of technicians and graduate students in the lab.

Required qualifications: PhD or equivalent degree in biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, bio-medical sciences, or related any discipline at time of hire. Proficiency in English is required.
