Job Description:

At GDIT there is no challenge we can’t turn into opportunity. Our work depends on a Tax Accountant joining our team to support the GDIT Tax Department activities in Herndon, VA.

As a Tax Accountant supporting the GDIT Tax Department, you will be trusted to support tax department strategy, planning and compliance functions.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT :

· Tax Strategy and Planning:

  • Participate in tax forecasts including liability, cash tax and effective tax rate

  • Strategic tax planning, analysis, and communication

  • Identify/Support tax saving or risk mitigating opportunities

  • Implement/Manage tax saving or risk mitigating opportunities

  • Analyze and support tax ramifications of contract proposals

  • Research jurisdictional tax law and maintain current knowledge of tax laws affecting the company

  • Provide guidance to non-tax functions regarding direct and indirect tax requirements

· Accounting for Income Tax and Tax Compliance:

  • Preparation of federal and state income tax returns

  • Analyze and prepare journal entries including income and transactional taxes

  • Assist in automation, preparation and review of indirect tax returns

  • Support corporate headquarters in audit inquiries

  • Support state income and non-income tax audit inquiries

  • Participate/Assist in business unit financial statement internal and external audit inquiries

  • dentify/Support process improvements, systems enhancements, and process automation

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or relevant discipline plus 2+ years of related experience: OR in lieu of degree, 6 years of related work experience is required

  • Experience with Corporate Taxation or Accounting/Finance

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and knowledge of financial systems

  • Familiarity with technology tools or data visualization and/or data analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, etc

  • Experience with multiple work streams to include bringing together disparate information into a final product

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in use of Data Visualization tools to enable efficient gathering, analysis, and utilization of complex and unaligned data sources

  • Experience with utilization of technology to improve process efficiency

  • Experience with tax preparation or multi-state corporations

  • Helpful if familiar with CorpTax and/or other tax software

  • Financial and data analysis skills

  • Knowledge of revenue recognition and profit analysis concepts and techniques

  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley audit and reporting requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and/or Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)

  • Ability to handle moderately complex assignments and multiple projects at once

  • Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly

  • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment, and professionally executes projects with little direction, and seeks process improvement

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

The likely salary range for this position is $63,750 - $86,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
