Job Summary and Qualifications

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager provides managerial support to the Director of Pharmacy and other Pharmacy Department personnel through day-to-day operation of the drug distribution process to include, but not limited to supervision and training of technicians, employee feedback involvement for technicians in the process/area, ensuring adequate stock levels of drugs are maintained, shortage strategies, IV workflow technologies. This position is responsible for supporting a patient and customer focused department in support of the delivery of exceptional patient care.

What you will do in this role:

  • You will direct activities of clinical functions effectively.

  • Your role establishes priorities for assignments based on workload and resources available.

  • You will be accountable for maintaining and improving your own job knowledge, skills and competence.

  • You will complete annual education requirements and TB test as scheduled.

  • In this role you will lead/participate in department or hospital committees, task forces, and/or provide departmental education when appropriate.

  • You will develop and document staff competency on an ongoing basis and develop improvement plans when deficiencies in competencies are identified.

  • Your role will assist with the development and implementation of an effective Quality Assurance plan and monitors. May include determining usage patterns for drugs and setting drug use criteria.

  • You will investigate inconsistencies in drug therapy including recognition and documentation of possible adverse drug reactions.

  • You will participate and document information as requested for Medication Use Evaluations or Drug Studies.

  • You will prepare QA, Clinical Service, and PIP reports in a timely manner meeting deadlines as required. You will coordinate with Directors to establish, expand and document the benefits of clinically oriented pharmaceutical care services.

  • Your role will coordinate with Directors and appropriate staff to streamline formularies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of pharmaceuticals.

  • You will orient, train, and mentor pharmacists to carry out their job responsibilities as it relates to clinical pharmacy.

  • You will coordinate and serve as an information source for medical and hospital staff regarding the effects and use of medication.

  • You will promote and recommend appropriate, cost-effective alternatives to drug therapy along with performing cost benefit, cost effectiveness analysis on alternative drug therapies and drug delivery systems making specific recommendations through hospital committees.

  • You will promote the utility of clinical pharmacy services toward patient outcomes and cost savings through the management of the clinical program.

  • You will oversee the responsibilities and duties of the pharmacy preceptor and residency program when applicable.

  • Your role interfaces with physicians and nurses to develop quality, cost effective therapeutics through clinical pathways.

  • You will perform management responsibilities to include but not limited to: Assisting in development of schedules for pharmacy staff; assist and plan the orientation and training of employees when needed; assist in time clock management of Pharmacy staff; and disciplinary action of direct reports when needed.

What qualifications you will need:

  • PharmD. Degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy

  • Post graduate residency preferred

  • Minimum Five Years of clinical experience

  • Active licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Tennessee (or eligible to obtain)
