U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Maintenance Mechanic Leader in Hermitage, Pennsylvania

Summary About the Position: Will manage the operations and maintenance program, monitor maintenance requirements, prioritize work schedules, repair and troubleshoot equipment/electrical components/facilities, and coordinate contract work at a natural resources recreation area. Current, permanent Army employees who would like to be considered for this time-limited assignment should instead apply to Announcement # CERE240361464549 Responsibilities Provide technical direction and assists in accomplishing difficult, new, or substantially changed work steps, processes, methods, procedures, and operational sequences. Inspect completed work for quality and work order/assignment requirements, reporting possible or actual work delays to the supervisor. Assure that equipment, supplies, and materials are onsite, maintained, and used properly to avoid unnecessary delays in the accomplishment of work. Support and explain management programs to team and ensure processes are executed per industry standard and by SOP to fulfill maintenance requirements. Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI and/or Corps of Engineers safety regulations to accomplish work safely, takes immediate and effective action to eliminate hazards when discrepancies are found. Operate a variety of equipment such as: cranes, front-end loader, pick-up truck, dump truck, excavator, skid steer, etc. Read gauges, evaluate lake inflow, evaluate rate of rise in lake, and operate flood control equipment. Lead other skilled trades professional in daily preventative maintenance and repair work at the flood control facility and throughout recreation areas. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. Perform various maintenance duties under close supervision such as rough carpentry work, machinery repair, sandblasting and painting, pipefitting, equipment operations, concrete maintenance and repair. Operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to: overhead cranes, skid steers, dump trucks, aerial lifts, and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repair, replacement or creation of projects. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Competence Technology Application Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position as identified in the position description. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Duties include but are not limited to climbing ladders and steep stairways, and working on steep and uneven ground. Work often requires lifting or pulling items in excess of 40 pounds. Working Effort: Incumbent performs or leads workers in the performance of work under all types of conditions, in good or bad weather, inside and outside, from ladders, scaffolding or platforms, in hard to reach places, confined spaces or in awkward positions. The worker regularly encounters dirty, dusty and greasy conditions and occasionally makes repairs where foul odors are present. Exposure to the possibility of broken bones, scrapes, burns and infections is possible. Incumbent is required to observe proper safety practices, including wearing apparel and equipment. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) 17 Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations.
