The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Forensic Laboratory Evidence/Administrative Technician I in the Police Department. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status.**

Under general supervision, performs a broad range of specialized functions involving the handling, documentation and tracking of forensic evidence along with completion of administrative tasks, some of which are unique to a forensic laboratory; and performs related duties as assigned.

Candidate will be handling human blood and other biological matrices that may contain blood borne pathogens, blood borne infections/diseases, and other hazards. Candidate will also be testifying in court in regard to the actions taken when transporting, handling, and accessioning the blood; and in regard to accepted principles of evidence handling and security, safety practices/procedures and the chain of custody. SPECIAL NOTE:

  • Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.

  • Probationary full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business management, business administration or public administration

  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible or directly related administrative experience

  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered

  • Must have sufficient keyboarding skills of 45 net words per minute

  • Must complete training for criminal witness testimony within six (6) months of appointment.

  • Required to obtain certification in JLink, National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Shared Computer Operations for Protection and Enforcement (SCOPE) and Law Enforcement Records Management System (RMS) within one (1) year of hire, and maintain annual re-training and certification.

  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.

  • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years.Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment.

  • Desirable: Knowledge of operational forensic laboratory procedures and department policies.

ASSESSMENT DATES:

Remote/Online Typing Test* (Pass/Fail): After closing date/time of job announcement

*This position requires candidates to type 45 words per minute. Candidates will be required to complete an online typing test to verify that they meet the minimum typing requirements listed in the job description. All candidates will be sent an email with a link to the typing test. This test must be completed by the date/time listed in the notice/invite. Candidates who successfully complete the online typing test will be eligible to move to the next step of the assessment process (based on typing a minimum of 45 net words per minute.) Candidates who do not initially receive a typing score of 45 net WPM or higher will not be eligible to move forward in the recruitment.

Candidates will be required to pass the typing portion of the written examination based on the number of net words per minute (WPM) listed in the minimum qualifications. There are free practice typing tests online if you would like to gauge your speed and practice prior to the assessment date. However, you must pass the test we administer, and we will utilize the score you receive from our exam.
