BioFire Diagnostics, LLC. R & D Electrical Engineering Co-op in Hazelwood, Missouri

Position Summary: This Electrical Engineering co-op position will include support and operation of EMC test facilities and equipment, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and evaluating instrument and system issues, and proposing design alternatives. The engineering co-op student will work alongside of and in support of the R&D Electrical Engineering team and broader Hardware Development team. The engineering teams are a diverse, collaborative group working on the support and/or development of medical devices. The devices are used to automate in vitro diagnostics typically found in a microbiology lab. The candidate for this position must be familiar with general electronics laboratory equipment and practices and have strong oral and written communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of electronics, electromagnetic theory, and/or electromagnetic compatibility.

The engineering co-op student will be supervised and mentored by the Director, Managers and Sr. Engineer’s in the engineering team of Systems Development. Interaction with Project Leaders and other engineers will occur daily as needed in the co-op period.

Basic Knowledge: The co-op will obtain basic knowledge related to medical instrumentation research, development, design, and testing. Candidates will be expected to have general Engineering knowledge including the use of standard engineering tools and test equipment and to have general computer applications competencies (word processing, spreadsheet, internet data search, software programming, etc.)

Project Activities : This position will include operation of EMC test equipment, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and evaluating instrument and system issues, and proposing design alternatives.

Design and Development Process : The co-op will be given the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding of the bioMerieux Design Control Process that addresses US and international regulatory requirements, as well as internal Quality Assurance.

Requirements:

Must be an Electrical Engineering undergraduate student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be considered. Sophomore year completed is preferred, but not required.
