Job Description

American Express’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy is an important aspect of how we do business as a company, which is receiving increasing interest from regulators and investors. In response, we are creating an ESG Controllership team within External Reporting, to develop and support well controlled, auditable processes to compile ESG related data and incorporate this ESG data into relevant external reports.

This role will support mandatory ESG disclosures including the SEC’s climate disclosure, EU CSRD, various IFRS S1 and S2 proposals, UK TCFD, etc. This role will partner closely with the Enterprise ESG team, General Counsel’s Office, Investor Relations, GRC, GREWE, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build cross-functional partnerships within American Express

  • Support data collection for ESG mandatory disclosures.

  • Partner closely with the CSR team and other stakeholders, ensuring strong governance and controls.

  • Collaborate with key internal cross-functional stakeholders in SOX/OE and IAG to design and implement processes, controls, and systems to support ESG data governance, metrics and KPIs

  • Be a subject matter expert on existing and future regulations, disclosure proposals and technical issues relevant to ESG reporting.

  • Conduct ESG benchmarking and develop recommendations to enhance ESG reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Ability to take ownership for developing processes and systems for consistent and accurate reporting

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task effectively and prioritize different activities while maintaining accuracy and adhering to deadlines

  • Proponent of collaborative approaches to identify opportunities and solutions

  • Experience with TCFD reporting, IFRS S1 and S2 standards, CSRD, Double Materiality Assessments, and SEC climate disclosure reporting

  • Financial reporting and accounting, internal or external audit and/or internal controls/process assurance is a plus

  • Advanced PowerPoint and Excel proficiency a plus

  • Understanding of financial systems such as Oracle subledger, General Ledger, TM1, etc.

  • Experience working with cross functional teams across different geographies preferred

  • Working shift will be 3:30pm – 11:30pm IST
