Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Energy Assistance Worker in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

The Department of Human Services is seeking seasonal Energy Assistance Workers at the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Helpline. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In the role of an Energy Assistance Worker, you will employ strong verbal and written communication skills to assess information and accurately apply policies and procedures to determine eligibility for LIHEAP benefits. Operating within a call center, you will handle calls and emails, engaging with applicants with both objectivity and empathy, particularly those facing distressing circumstances.  You will also guide callers in navigating the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Access to Social Services (COMPASS) website or mobile app. Furthermore, your responsibilities will include the frequent use of computer applications while interacting with clients and Department of Human Services personnel.  A key aspect of your role will be to connect citizens with additional community resources that may provide support or enhance their LIHEAP benefits.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time seasonal employment, 37.5 hours per week. Seasonal employment runs from approximately from October to April but employment may begin as early as September and last until June. Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch, subject to operational needs. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time after successful completion of a 6-month probationary period, reporting to the office one (1) day per month. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years of experience in general office work which included interviewing the public; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
