Rabbittransit Dauphin 1st Class Mechanic in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Work Location: 901 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg, PA. 17101

Rate of Pay: $30.02/hour for first 90 days, then $31.68/hour after 90 days through 1 year, $33.35 after 1 year (plus shift differential of $.20/hr. on 2nd shift or 3rd shift)

$750 tool allowance annually.

*Schedule: *Four 10-hour shifts. New Hire will be placed on 10 hours, running consecutive days. Shift assignment is determined by bid assignment and seniority. Must have open availability to work any of our operating hours. Dauphin Mechanic Department operates Sunday 8 PM thru Saturday 11:59 PM.

Job Summary (Role in Organization):

The position is critical in assisting Cumberland Dauphin Harrisburg Transit Authority in meeting our mission of mobility. Our culture of innovation and stewardship champions that mission. First Class Mechanic specializes in complex diagnosis and repairs, as well as inspections. This position also shows skills and abilities in at least one major sub-system. Sub-systems include but are not limited to Engine, Transmission, Air Brakes, Air System, Suspension and Steering, HVAC, Electrical, W/C Lifts and Ramps, Hydraulics and Body Repairs.

Key/ Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance supervisors. This position receives training, general supervision, and works according to standards.

Some Essential Knowledge, Skills, abilities, and experience:

  • High school degree or equivalent required
  • Six years of fulltime experience as a maintenance technician diagnosing malfunctions and repairing heavy-duty vehicles. Up to one year of the required experience may be substituted by successful completion of vocational education. Must have a minimum of one year maintenance experience on transit vehicles.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair principles, procedures, methods, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of equipment and specialized tools.
  • Knowledge of heavy-duty vehicle preventive maintenance
  • knowledge of equipment repair cost estimation
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Ability to train others in maintenance technician job tasks
  • Ability to diagnose and repair heavy duty vehicles; demonstrated problem solving skills and complete assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and with other mechanics as job task requires.
  • Ability to use and operate proficiently a computer database application.
  • Ability to complete record-keeping and electronic and/or written reports.
  • Must possess own hand tools.

Certificates and Licenses Required:

  • Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License Class "B" operator's license with a passenger endorsement and air brake restriction lifted that is not under suspension or revocation, and possess current automobile insurance coverage.
  • Must possess a valid DOT medical card.
  • This is a safety sensitive position and subject to US DOT Drug and Alcohol pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and return to duty testing.
  • ASE certification preferred in at least four (4) of the following certifications: H2 Diesel Engines, H3 Drive Train, H4 Brakes, H5 Suspension and Steering, H6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, H7 Heating, Ventilation and A/C.
  • Must possess a minimum Class 7 Pennsylvania State Motor Vehicle Inspection License.
  • Must Possess AC 609 certification
  • Fare box certification preferred
