Purpose

The case aide is responsible for assisting intensive case managers and the integration supervisor in supporting refugees, particularly from vulnerable groups or with special needs, in becoming successfully integrated in the Harrisburg community by assessing their needs, connecting them to community resources, and helping them to navigate governmental and programmatic systems. This is a very hands-on employment opportunity and will require daily use of reliable transportation.The position reports to the Integration Supervisor, performing activities in assisting intensive case managers in the Preferred Communities program that assist special needs and vulnerable clients in achieving self-sufficiency and healthy integration.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

 

 

  • Assists the intensive case managers and the integration supervisor in all duties related to the successful integration of refugees with special needs and vulnerable clients in accordance to guidelines under the ORR-funded Preferred Communities program.
  • Provides interpretation and translation services to refugee clients, including intakes and services provided.
  • Connects clients to in-house support and makes referrals to external service providers as necessary to assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency.
  • Assists the intensive case manager and the integration supervisor in preparing and documenting monthly maintenance assistance requests and distributes disbursements.
  • Assists the integration supervisor in any duties he/she deems necessary.
  • Support intensive case managers when working with enrolled clients in developing a self-sufficiency plan (SSP) with outlined goals aimed at addressing primary areas of vulnerability, including but not limited to community links, healthcare navigation, English learning, and transportation.
  • Facilitate referrals and links to local service providers and healthcare specialists, liaising on behalf of client as applicable and supporting connections that coincide with SSP goals.

     

  • Provide transportation support as necessary and coordinate additional transportation links in the community to promote self-sufficiency and independence of client.

  • Maintain detailed and thorough client case files and case notes. Track and report all program activities including outreach to service providers and community training on program activities and services.
  • When necessary, coordinate with interpreters and community service providers to provide linguistically and culturally competent services and education, advocating for clients when necessary.

Case Management

 

 

  • Documents all services in clients' case notes.
  • Records all financial transactions in clients' financial tracking logs.
  • Assists the resettlement supervisor in any duties they deem necessary.

Common Duties:

 

 

  • Advocates on behalf of refugees, and refugee-serving voluntary agencies.
  • Keeps informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to refugees, using current information to better identify and serve refugee clients.
  • Represents the program relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in a culturally appropriat manner.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma Required, bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:

 

 

  • Previous work experience in refugee resettlement or other direct social services is preferred.
  • Ability to provide culturally sensitive service and a willingness to work with a diverse, non-English speaking clientele is required.

Oth er Skills:

 

 

  • Written and verbal communication skills in the English language are required.
  • Fluency in Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, Spanish or other refugee languages is highly preferred but not required.
  • The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word and Access) and internet applications.
  • Must be over 21 years of age.
  • The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
