DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As part of this role, you will engage in a structured one-year training program that combines formal learning with hands-on experience to gain a thorough understanding of the responsibilities of an Air Quality Engineering Specialist. You will be responsible for reviewing and assessing applications for plan approvals, extensions, permits, and compliance with relevant regulations and engineering standards. This involves preparing draft approvals or denials in accordance with established guidelines and best practices in the field. Additionally, you will be tasked with scheduling and conducting detailed inspections of emission sources and air pollution control devices at designated facilities. Your observations during these inspections will be crucial in determining adherence to approved plans and permits, as well as ensuring compliance with both Federal and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) regulations. Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with District Supervisors and field staff to coordinate surveillance activities and investigative sampling projects. This teamwork is essential in maintaining a high level of environmental monitoring and enforcement to safeguard air quality standards and protect public health.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $63,590 (before taxes). QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of engineering experience, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or

A bachelor's degree in the field of engineering. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree. Conditions of Employment:

This position will require possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
