Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Staff Accountant at our educational institution located in Hampton, Virginia. This role requires the candidate to have a strong understanding of account reconciliation, and will involve managing and reconciling large financial accounts.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage large financial accounts

• Carry out detailed account reconciliation

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records

• Resolve any financial discrepancies promptly and accurately

• Collaborate with the financial team to ensure smooth financial operations

• Prepare financial reports regularly for management review

• Implement financial policies and procedures in line with industry standards

• Assist in the annual budget preparation and forecasting

• Liaise with external auditors during financial audits

• Ensure compliance with state and federal tax regulations. Requirements • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• Proven experience in a Staff Accountant role or similar is required

• Demonstrable skills in Account Reconciliation are essential

• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

• Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail

• Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

• Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• The ability to maintain confidentiality is paramount

• Knowledge of the Education - University industry is a plus

• Must be willing to continue learning and adapting to new accounting methods and standards.
