Perioperative Services Aide provides patient transport, blood product and specimen transport, equipment transport, stocking of supplies, and maintains an orderly, clean and safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.High school diploma or GED required; current enrollment in an Associate or Bachelor Degree Clinical Laboratory Program required. | None Required | None RquiredPATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY) 5% Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect. Patient Transport as delegated by the RN - 65% Transports patients to and from Perioperative Department using two patient identifiers, proper body mechanics and universal precautions. Demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills towards patients, family members and health care providers.. Effectively communicates pt. observations and concerns timely and appropriately to RN Orientation of patients and visitors to room & unit. Safety measures: call light within reach; side rails up per policy; apply and reapply restraints as delegated per RN Operations - 30% Environment: facilitates the maintenance of a clean, safe and organized environment for patients and co-workers by assisting with cleaning in all areas of Perioperative Services: SDS, OR, Endoscopy, MIS, PACU Transports unit specific equipment as directed. Performs cleaning of unit specific equipment. Under the direction of the RN, transports blood products and specimens Performs stocking of Perioperative supplies, including but not limited to linen, masks, surgical hats and shoe covers, warm-up jackets, scrub supplies, cleaning supplies. Reports maintenance issues. Enters appropriate information in Navicare patient flow systems. Ensures oral and written directives are effectively and efficiently completed. Performs courteous, effective, phone duties as directed. Relays written and verbal communication regarding pertinent patient/family issues to the Clinical Coordinator or Charge Nurse. Emergency Situations: responds appropriately to emergency situations, assist as directed by RN, obtain equipment as needed. | Review the physical demands and assign an overall average percentage of time this position performs these activities. These physical demands will not be listed or rated on the annual performance appraisal.
