Quinnipiac University Full-Time Tenure-Track Faculty: Chemistry in Hamden, Connecticut

Overview:

The College of Arts & Sciences at Quinnipiac University is excited to announce a new hiring initiative in STEM inclusivity, which reflects our commitment to academic excellence and to fostering a more equitable future in STEM disciplines.

As part of this initiative, we are seeking a tenure-track faculty member in chemistry at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about advancing STEM inclusivity and eager to lead efforts in curricular enhancement, as well as the development and implementation of innovative teaching strategies for introductory STEM courses across the College. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving retention and success rates among historically marginalized students in STEM majors, while also enhancing quantitative literacy for all students. In addition, this individual will conduct workshops and train faculty both within the College of Arts and Sciences and across other schools at Quinnipiac University.

Collaboration will be a vital part of this role, including working closely with a mathematics faculty member recently hired as part of the same initiative. The successful candidate will also engage with Quinnipiac’s Innovations in Learning and Teaching Office to support broader educational initiatives.

The University’s new 137,000 sq. ft. Science, Innovation, Technology, and Exploration (SITE) building, opening in fall 2025, will offer state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities for faculty in the sciences.

Responsibilities:

  • Take a leadership role in curricular improvement and in the development of innovative teaching strategies for introductory STEM classes across the College

  • Work collaboratively to develop workshops to help train full-time and part-time faculty on inclusive teaching strategies aimed at increasing retention and improving graduation rates

  • Teach lectures and labs of introductory chemistry courses, and upper-level courses in their area of expertise

  • The standard teaching load for tenure-track positions in the College of Arts and Sciences is three, three-credit courses per semester (9 credits or instructional hours per semester). However, the successful candidate will be eligible to receive a course reduction per year for work to be performed to enhance teaching and learning.

  • Maintain an active research program that will engage students and lead to scholarly presentations and publications. While the research area is open, the department welcomes candidates who can mentor students conducting bench research projects in chemistry.

  • Seek funding to support research or teaching

  • Demonstrate a willingness to communicate information about their research and/or efforts with improving STEM inclusivity with the public

  • Guide, advise, and mentor students academically and professionally

  • Engage in service activities to help advance the mission and values of the university, such as participating in department, college and university meetings and committee work

  • Support Quinnipiac University’s commitment to an inclusive environment

Education Requirements:

  • PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry or closely related field

Qualifications:

  • Experience and expertise in leading curricular improvement that support inclusive chemistry instruction

  • Evidence of employing inclusive and innovative teaching strategies in introductory STEM classes

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the institution to develop workshops to help train full-time and part-time faculty on inclusive teaching strategies aimed at increasing retention and improving graduation rates

  • Ability to work collaboratively with mathematics faculty to develop initiatives to enhance math skills important in the quantitative aspects of chemistry

  • Ability to teach introductory chemistry courses, and/or to contribute to teaching lectures or labs of advanced chemistry courses

  • Ability to mentor undergraduate research students who major in chemistry or biochemistry, and possibly graduate students in our Molecular and Cell Biology master’s program
