ABOUT THE ROLE

The Mechanical Technician (MET1) helps keep plant equipment in good mechanical repair so that it can function properly by performing mechanical repair work.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Makes mechanical repairs on plant equipment, which may consist of replacing worn and broken parts and making necessary adjustments to put equipment back into operating condition.

  • Ability to disassemble machinery, remove worn and broken parts, replace usable parts, reassembles parts.

  • Installs machinery, caring for alignment, setting, seating, leveling, balancing and adjusting of component parts.

  • Ability to perform burning and basic welding as required.

  • willing to load and unload repair parts going to and from machine shop and repair site.

  • Inspects mechanical dust collectors for maintenance and repair needs, replaces bags and lubricates as required.

  • Ability to fabricate, install and repair safety devices and guards for plant equipment.

  • Prepares for metal fabrication by measuring objects and working from sketches and drawings.

  • Ability to fabricate metal items such as oil pans, boxes, ducts, spouts, etc.

  • Willing to perform maintenance and repairs on buildings’ doors, windows, landings, plumbing, etc.

  • Ability to perform lock-out, tag-out, try-out as required.

  • Willing to cleans up the site after completing repairs.

  • Willing to exchange information with other plant employees regarding current operating conditions.

  • Ability to perform actions to correctly inspect areas of plant equipment and record where required by Supervisor.

  • Willing to correct minor deficiency within scope of inspection.

  • Subject to progressive system.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Required Education: High School diploma/GED

Additional Education Preferred: Two years technical college in a related subject

Required Work Experience: 2-4 years industrial experience as a millwright is required. Experience with rebuilding gearboxes, shaft alignment on heavy industrial equipment, bearing installation is desired.

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of overall cement plant operations, or comparable heavy industrial environment, is preferred.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
