Hagerstown Community College Fitness Center Coordinator in Hagerstown, Maryland

SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Fitness Center Coordinator is responsible for managing and supervising the operations of a full-time fitness center facility, including programming and service delivery to students, student athletes, fitness center membership, HCC faculty and staff.  This position is also tasked with creating a welcoming, safe and productive environment for students, faculty and staff to engage in health and wellness.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A.    The Fitness Center Coordinator reports directly to and is responsible to the Director of Athletics & ARCC.  

 

B.    The position provides supervision to part-time fitness center associate(s) and student workers.

 

C.    The Fitness Center Coordinator coordinates most closely with the Director of Athletics & ARCC, Human Resources liaison, Student Activities Coordinator, athletic team coaches, students, faculty and staff. Additionally, this position will collaborate with outside agencies to carry out assigned responsibilities and HCC community partnerships.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

A.    Performs administrative duties:

  1.        Supervise, train, schedule and evaluate the day-to-day work of part-time Fitness Center Associate(s), student workers, and volunteers.

  2.      Coordinate promotional material.

  3.        Plan, prepare, and manage the fitness center operating budget.

  4.        Implement and maintain facility usage records, generate monthly usage reports with the goal of maximizing use by HCC constituents.

  5.      Problem-solve technology issues with I T department.

  6.        Coordinate the master fitness center usage schedule with the Director of Athletics & ARCC and athletic team coaches for athletic team usage.

  7.      Implement policies and procedures for the fitness center and update staff manuals.

  8.    Assist Athletic Department in roles associated with sports information as need presents and time permits.

     

B.    Manages Fitness Center Facility and Equipment:

  1.    Supervises the care, cleaning, maintenance and inventory of the Fitness Center equipment.

  2.    Implements and coordinates a regular preventive maintenance schedule for the Fitness Center equipment with both internal and external agencies.

  3.    Ensures hygienic practices and protocols are in place and staff are trained in preventing the spread of germs.

     

C.    Creates and implements fitness, wellness and strength training programs:

  1.      In collaboration with the athletic team coaches, create and oversee strength and conditioning works outs for HCC's athletic teams.

  2.      In collaboration with the Human Resources liaison, establish and oversee a campus wellness/fitness program for HCC's faculty and staff to include class instruction, health and wellness events and friendly competitions throughout the year.

  3.      In collaboration with the Coordinator of Student Activities, ensure actively enrolled students are aware of Fitness Center offerings and program accordingly to promote student usage.

  4.      Continually enhance Fitness Center usage by HCC students, faculty and staff by creatively programming to meet campus health and wellness.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Fitness Management or a related field is required.  Experience in exercise programming required.  Supervisory experience and experience in facilitating individual and group fitness programs preferred.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent communication skills; ability to plan, direct, schedule and assign the work of others; ability to make decisions in accordance with established operating procedures; ability to establish and maintain good work relationships with directors, deans, faculty, coaches, students, and the general public; ability to access information from the networked system; and the ability to work with standard computer applications. First Aid and CPR/AED certification required.
