SUMMARY STATEMENT This full-time, tenure track faculty position is responsible for teaching courses in Theatre, Music and other courses as necessary within the division. This instructor will be a member of the English and Humanities Division with all the responsibilities of a regular HCC faculty member. Additionally, this instructor will have the responsibility for leadership of the Theater Program including theater productions, curriculum development and SLOA-related duties. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS A. The instructor reports directly to and is responsible to the Division Director of English & Humanities Division. B. The instructor works with the Division Director to provide leadership for other faculty members and staff involved with theater courses. FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES A. Teaching A faculty member is expected to prepare for and teach 15 credits in the fall and spring terms. The faculty member is expected to direct at least one of the two theatrical productions produced each year contributing as part of the faculty load. Overload teaching is available with the approval of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services. B. Assessment A faculty member is expected to assess learning outcomes at the course, program, general education and institutional levels. C. Student Advisement A faculty member is expected to advise students on courses, programs and career/transfer objectives, with support from Student Affairs. D. Student Advocacy A faculty member should be committed to student learning and success and be available to help students as needed. E. Curriculum Development A faculty member must be current in their field and transfer that knowledge to students with course content, and via teaching delivery. They are also expected to make continuous updates to the curriculum, and keep up-to-date with changing technology. F. Shared Governance A faculty member participates in all levels of shared college governance, including- departmental, divisional, and institutional-wide activities. G. Professional Development A faculty member maintains an approved professional development plan that supports the colleges strategic goals. H. College Service A faculty member is expected to serve the college in activities addressing departmental responsibilities, and/or community outreach, and/or student and campus life activities. I. Community Service A faculty member serves the college in voluntary community service activity, that positively reflects the colleges image, and is not in conflict with the colleges strategic goals or their faculty responsibilities. J. Cross-Departmental Collaborations A faculty member within theatre will work across departments, inclusive of credit and non-credit, to build and enhance the student educational experiences. ESSENTIAL DUTIES In addition to the regular faculty responsibilities listed above, the instructor: A. As requested by the VP and/or Division Director, observes and mentors selected adjuncts within their division, and makes recommendations for improvement. B. Works with the Division Director and other faculty, to develop and maintain the courses which are required for this program. C. Works with the Division Director of the English & Humanities Division to coordinate the Theater program including the: 1. Assessment of student learning outcomes at the program and course level, with establishment and coordination of a community-based advisory committee 2. Leadership of program development and collaboration with other units on campus (ie. Continuing Education) Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Masters degree in Theater Arts (M.A. or M.F.A), or an equivalent degree in a related field with significant professional experience is required. Preference will be given to a candidate who has skills as a pianist, and musical director, has a knowledge of traditional and contemporary musicals as well as pop/rock/country/R&B music, and is comfortable with new technology. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Th candidate who is a good fit for this position comes with the ability to re-imagine and develop our theater program to meet the educational and professional needs of our students and to steward our program as it continues to aim to provide theatrical productions that add to the cultural vitality of our region. The skills and abilities include a collaborative approach to their work and the ability to wear many hats within a theater production team.
