Atlantic Health System Director, Nursing in Hackettstown, New Jersey

Atlantic Medical Center is seeking a Director of Nursing for Hackettstown Medical Center. The successful candidate will be visible, an outstanding communicator, able to build relationships across a diverse organization, and respectful of others, yet able to make tough decisions and enhance the operations of the organization. This will take an individual that is highly creative and who can eliminate unnecessary waste, while ensuring Atlantic Health System are supported in their efforts to deliver safe, effective, high-quality care. The successful candidate will have a track record of success working closely with physicians to improve operations and profitability.

Responsibilities:

  1. People-Creates a working environment that promotes positive employee engagement, adherence to company policies, effective communications, collaboration, innovation, optimal productivity and continuous learning. Assures that systems are in place to ensure appropriate resources and competent staff.

    1. Cost/Budget-Directs department operations on a continuous basis and advises management on operational and functional improvement opportunities. Ensures that budget monitoring processes are in place and that appropriate action plans are established to address variances outside of established parameters. Identifies and implements ways to reduce and control expenses, as well as enhance revenues in the hospital and assigned areas. Ensures staff and physician awareness of cost impact on organization.

    2. Service-Focuses staff on continuously building customer satisfaction for patients, physicians, colleagues, the community and other departments served. Engages staff in continually raising the bar in service excellence.

    3. Growth-Communicates effectively as hospital/system advocate to members of the community, continually seeks ways to promote organization to the public.

    4. Quality-Assures that implementation of standards of professional practice occurs, reviewing and revising according to policy or as necessary to reflect changes in practice and to ensure safe, effective and efficient patient care. Develop with our physician colleagues, a system wide quality review program. Ensures compliance with local, state, federal rules and regulations and OSHA and JC standards. Consistently, with others, evaluates core processes for redesign opportunities to improve operations, reduce cost, reduce cycle time, enhance service and improve performance.

    5. Physicians-Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective relationships with physicians. Develops collaborative models for structured communications and strategic, program and quality initiatives.

    6. Directs the operations function in conjunction with business growth, introduction of new operational systems, meeting organizational financial objectives, and meeting organizational goals in relation to safety, quality, and timely delivery of products or services.

    7. Assists with development of organization's policies, practices, and attainment of operating goals

    8. Assesses and assists in upgrading the management talent base within operations to achieve growth and meet market needs.

    9. Assists in the development of quality improvement programs that design, plan, measure, and improve the functions and key clinical populations served

    10. Coordinates needed support to operations areas through intradepartmental interface for smooth workflow and cost-efficient product or service.

    11. Develops and maintains performance standards for direct and indirect reports. Acts as a role model, mentor, and training coach for team members.

    12. Managing fiscal operation of assigned departments using the budget as a guideline for revenue and expense analysis on an ongoing basis to determine potential variances and make adjustments where necessary.

    13. Developing and updating department goals consistent with the facility’s strategic business plan, mission and vision.

    14. Skill in creating an energetic and enthusiastic work environment where people have positive attitudes about their work.

    15. Skill in preparing reports, manuals, or other documents that contain complex information and are intended to be read by others without a technical background.

    16. Establishes a culture of accountability and drives an unrelenting passion for excellence that demonstrates top tier performance and cutting-edge innovation.

    17. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree of Nursing and Science

  • RN NJ License

  • Master's Degree required

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a progressively leadership position

  • Professional Certification Recommended

  • Excellent oral/written communication skills are essential.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of management, physicians, clinicians, support staff and customers.

  • Must possess a strong process improvement and financial management expertise.
