Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define strategy and outcomes for UHC’s data platform, linking business problems and goals to the roadmap

  • Drive innovation in data management and cloud technologies to support data sharing and reuse

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align data platform initiatives with broader organizational objectives

  • Oversee architecture, design, and implementation of platform capabilities to support consistency, security, interoperability, and quality of data on the platform

  • Lead complex data platform projects from conception through delivery, ensuring timely and successful completion

  • Align enterprise architecture direction and solutions with business strategies. Performs two functions : Outcome based E2E architecture & Platform Capability based strategic architecture

  • Drive the Data Architecture Review Board, managing intake, documenting decisions and guiding teams to preferred data assets and the target state architecture for analytics and reporting.

  • Decision maker for the identification/prioritization of solutions from the various options provided by teams, and final recommendation from multiple solution options

  • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in cloud computing, data engineering, and data security practices

  • Identify, document and publish architecture and implementation best practices and standards.

  • Partner with UHC data domain owners and technical owners to understand roadmaps, data use cases and challenges.

  • Identify areas of reuse and consolidation across data assets, driving towards simplification and cost reduction.

  • Collaborate with data engineering teams and business consumer to create reusable frameworks to enable federated development and uniformity on analytic and reporting implementations.

  • Make recommendations around whether to maintain, invest, scale or sunset data assets based on strategy, cost benefit analysis, and usage.

  • Establish processes for architecture reviews and decision making to streamline time to decision and enable higher velocity for delivery.

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in cloud data technologies

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing team of data engineers and architects

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation within the team

  • Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field (Masters degree preferred)

  • 12+ years of experience in data management, data analytics, data engineering, or related field

  • 10+ years of healthcare industry experience

  • Proven experience in a leadership role, managing teams and large scale projects

  • Solid understanding of data architecture, data warehousing, ETL, and cloud technologies

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate technical concepts, schedule tradeoffs, and opportunistic ideas with technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a highly regulated environment, preferably healthcare technology

  • Proven use of Agile methodologies in delivering technology solutions, managing budgets, quality, and timelines to successful completion

  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills

  • Proven high attention to detail including ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously

  • Proven pro-actively identifies patterns in issues and researches root-cause to provide better clarity in defining highly complex problems. Aligns problems to platform opportunities

  • Proven solid analytical, project management and problem-solving skills
