With over $400 billion in assets under management, the BlackRock Financial Institutions Group is seeking a highly motivated Associate to join the team in Gurgaon within the Portfolio Management Group (PMG), supporting portfolio management, trading, client deliverables, and business operations as a developer, data scientist, quantitative researcher, and application developer.

Your role as a Python Developer / Codebase Steward:

  • Play a pivotal role in creating and maintaining Python scripts that improve the efficiency, precision, and scalability of our portfolio management processes.

  • Development of new tools, the optimization of existing scripts, and ensuring the highest standards of code quality and maintainability.

  • Contribute to our investment strategy's success.

  • This role requires a blend of technical excellence in Python, a deep understanding of financial markets, and the ability to lead initiatives that directly. Impacts our investment process.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Script Development and Maintenance

  • Own the development of Python scripts that automate data analysis, reporting, risk management, and investment decision-making processes.

  • Take ownership for the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of existing scripts, ensuring they adapt to evolving portfolio strategies and market conditions.

  • Codebase Management:

  • Supervise the organization and integrity of the FIG code repository, implementing robust version control and documentation practices.

  • Champion coding standards and best practices specific to financial scripting, ensuring reliability, performance, and ease of use.

  • Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Work closely with portfolio managers, analysts, and other collaborators to find opportunities for automation and operational improvement.

  • Mentor and guide team members in Python scripting techniques, financial analysis methodologies, and best practices in code development.

  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay at the forefront of financial technology trends, Python development standard processes, and emerging tools that can improve portfolio management capabilities.

  • Be responsible for the evaluation and implementation of new technologies or frameworks that can provide competitive advantages in portfolio management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Finance, Mathematics, or a related field.

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience of minimum of 3 years in Python development, with a strong portfolio of projects demonstrating expertise in financial scripting or related areas.

  • 2+ years relevant financial industry experience

  • In-depth knowledge of financial markets, investment strategies, and portfolio management principles.

  • Proficiency in Python, with experience using libraries such as pandas, NumPy, and matplotlib for data analysis and financial modeling.

  • Shown understanding of version control systems, preferably Git, and experience in handling a collaborative codebase.

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with portfolio management software and tools.

  • 2+ years of work experience on the Aladdin platform preferred

  • Knowledge of Streamlit and Tableau

  • Experience in machine learning or statistical modeling applied to financial data.

  • Understanding of risk management principles and quantitative analysis.

Our hybrid work model
