Who will you be working with?

This position is located in our small, but growing, manufacturing and overhaul/repair facility located in Greenville. We primarily manufacture and overhaul components for the transit industry (subway and commuter rail). We have been in operation for over 50 years and offer fantastic benefits and stable work environment .

How will you make a difference?

As a member of Transtech, you will be Responsible for the ensuring that work assigned to the Microphore area is completed on time and in accordance with company standards and objectives for quality and performance. The Team Lead is also responsible for managing team members in terms of scheduling, attendance, performance, and time keeping. May also assist with production as needed as a working lead.

  • A minimum of five years related experience or a 2 year degree preferred.

  • Should be able to recommend changes in procedures or process to improve throughput.

  • Must be able to fill out necessary forms for reporting.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of oral and written communication with other team members.

  • Broad knowledge of the materials, tools, equipment and procedures necessary to complete tasks in the assigned production area.

  • Ability to coordinate the flow of material and labor between multiple work assignments.

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and 5S program.

  • High level of planning and organizational skills.

  • Accuracy and thoroughness in the preparation and completion of documentation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with direct reports, managers, planners and other employees.

  • Ability to instruct employees in how to use engineering drawings.

  • Ability to proficiently use ERP, Workday, email and other appropriate software tools.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Safety

  • Area Audits

  • Safety Rule Enforcement (i.e., proper PPE usage, guarding, cell phone usage)

  • Housekeeping/5S

  • Training

  • Conduct and document OJT training (follow up to ensure they understand)

  • Understand the skills matrix. Review area matrix for training deficiencies and or changes/additions at least monthly with any resulting updates documented and communicated to HR.

  • Continuously pursue cross training for team members within area and across departments.

  • Performance/Metrics

  • Take ownership and responsibility for your team’s performance – review quality (non conforming/scrap), efficiencies, indirect time and overtime weekly, counsel and train employees where needed.

  • Work with Mfg. Eng. to correct issues with time standards, routers, etc.

  • Discipline & Adherence to Standards, Rules and Policies

  • Monitor and counsel team members as needed for performance, quality, attendance, adherence to safety rules, etc. Do not allow issues to get out of hand before escalating to Manager. Consult with your manager and/or HR when confronted with issues you are not comfortable handling on your own or need advice for.

  • Monitor team members for behavior that could be considered discriminatory, harassing, inappropriate, offensive, etc. – consult with your manager and/HR when issues arise.

  • Assist your manager with documenting issues. Documentation is key when an employee if failing to meet performance or behavior standards.

  • Team Communication-Internal

  • Empower team members and facilitate team building

  • Conduct team meetings (i.e., start of shift mtg.) to communicate schedules, requirements, performance metrics, quality issues, etc.

  • Create an environment where everyone works together to solve problems and everyone feels their ideas and opinions are welcome and respected

  • Give team members feedback frequently and consistently. Do not limit feedback to only correcting poor performance – be sure to praise good work regularly.

  • Team Communication-External

  • Collaborate with other departments, team leads and management to resolve issues, communicate process improvement ideas, etc.

  • Speak up and participate during cross functional meetings.

  • Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously look for and implement ways to improve our processes

  • Seek input from team members

  • Communicate improvement ideas

  • Job Review Daily

  • Review to ensure job information has been entered correctly on daily timesheets by employees if applicable

  • Attendance

  • Monitor employee unplanned tardiness, absences, leave earlies, etc.

  • Monitor overtime

  • Travelers

  • Ensure team members are properly completing traveler documentation to include # parts, signatures, dates, quality checks, etc.

  • Update measurement/metrics boards as needed.

  • Scheduling

  • Ensure job orders flow through department on-time by managing machines, work flow and people.

  • Monitor daily attendance in order to reduce disruption and downtime caused by planned and/or unplanned absences. As stated above, approval of requests for time off must be made based on staffing and production needs.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an indoor manufacturing environment. The employee will work in areas exposed to production activities to include but not limited to production machinery, assembly operations, overhead cranes usage, and forklift traffic. The employee will be required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to workplace hazards.

Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; and interact with other employees, customers and vendors.
