North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State Unive Lecturer/Teaching Assistant or Associate Professor - Physics in Greensboro, North Carolina

The Department of Physics at North Carolina A&T State University, College of Science and Technology, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure-track lecturer or teaching assistant professor position starting in August 2024. A higher non-tenure track rank might be considered for qualified candidates. The initial appointment of the position is two years, and it is eligible for renewal.

The hired faculty is expected to show commitment to teaching excellence. She/he is expected to engage in culturally responsive teaching. The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate-level courses, conducting tutoring and supplemental instruction, and student advising. Engagement in recruitment, curriculum development, and conducting scholarly activities are also expected. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, serving on committees, engaging in program assessment, and service to the department, College, and University as needed. Administrative duties and responsibilities include collaborative work with faculty to improve programs, develop new programs and extracurricular opportunities, such as internships, serve as coordinator of multiple section courses, chair committees, assist with recruitment, or advise student organizations. Mentoring undergraduate students is also expected. A candidate whose teaching efforts promote the mission of the Physics Department and the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology ( COST ) and the University is highly desired. Collaboration with colleagues from the sciences, mathematics, and technology areas is encouraged.

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics & Statistics, Physics, and the PhD Program of Applied Science Technology.

The Department of Physics is an active department with twelve full time faculty who are heavily engaged in research. Current research areas include experimental nuclear physics, experimental and theoretical chemical physics, experimental biological and soft matter physics, computational physics, atmospheric sciences and meteorology, general relativity, and condensed matter physics. The department of Physics offers a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science and Meteorology, a Master of Science in Physics, and a concentration in Applied Physics under the College PhD Program in Applied Science and Technology.

Requirements:

For an appointment as a lecturer, applicants must have a masters degree with at least 18 credit hours of graduate Physics courses.

For an appointment as teaching assistant professor or higher, a Ph.D. degree in Physics or closely related field is required. The candidate must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching diverse populations and have two or more years of college/university level teaching experience.

Preferred:

The successful applicant will demonstrate ability to adopt and practice student-centered, active learning strategies and pedagogy, as well as have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to general education physics instruction, high-quality customer services, and student success initiatives.

Preference will be given to applicants with interest/ability to promote undergraduate research in the classroom.
