North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State Unive Assistant/Associate Professor Nutritional Sciences in Greensboro, North Carolina

Description:

Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in nutritional sciences (nutritional biochemistry); developing a research program in nutrition and securing external grants; advising graduate and undergraduate students, participating in curriculum development; collaborating with faculty on research and creative scholarship activities; serving on departmental, college and university committees and participating in other academic functions and all other activities are required for tenure.

Instructional

• Evaluate and grade students’ class work, assignments, and papers.

• Prepare and deliver instruction online or in-person to undergraduate and graduate students.

• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.

• Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.

• Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.

• Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.

• Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.

• Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.

Research

• Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional organizations and conferences.

• Conduct research in a particular field of knowledge and publish findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.

Administrative

• Collaborate with members of the business community to improve programs, develop new programs, and provide student access to learning opportunities such as internships.

• Supervise undergraduate or graduate teaching, internship, and research work.

• Develop and maintain course websites.

• Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.

• Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.

• Participate in campus and community events.

• Act as an adviser to student organizations.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The Department of Family And Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences ( AAFCS ). The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: child development and family relations , child development early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), consumer sciences, fashion merchandising and design, nutrition and food science. Additionally, the department offers a Master of Science degree in food and nutritional sciences, a Master of Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences education, and a Master of Arts in Teaching in child development early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure). Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles and in child and family studies.

Requirements:

Doctorate (completed by date of appointment) in nutritional sciences or closely related field from an accredited university, demonstrated ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in nutritional sciences (nutritional biochemistry) with a minimum of 3 years, successful strong technology skills, documented record of scholarly achievement and grant writing experience.

Preferred:

Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist. Postdoctoral experiences.
