Applicants should be passionate about research and training the next generation of scientists and engineers in modern research techniques. Research is our focus as we are a department that only trains graduate students with an average class size of 10. Successful applicants will assist North Carolina Agricultural and State University in its trajectory towards a Carnegie Research Intensive Doctoral University by contributing to PhD production, increasing research expenditures beyond $100,000,000 while contributing to the “Aggie Experience" which embraces responsibility, excellence, integrity, inclusiveness, and learning.

The Department is looking for individuals who possess engineering and scientific skills that support research thrusts at the nanoscale in Computational Nanoengineering, Semiconductor Materials, or a related area. This is a 9-month position and the appointment is expected to be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The Department is seeking qualified candidates who can develop a collaborative and innovative research program that will complement existing research and fully utilize the world-class facilities at JSNN .

The Department of Nanoengineering consists of 11 full-time tenure track faculty to support excellence in teaching and research. North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is the largest Historically Black College and University, and is ranked #3 in sponsored research programs in the University of North Carolina System and nationally recognized as a premier public comprehensive institution.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The Department of Nanoengineering at the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering invites applications from individuals interested in working with our faculty, students, and staff to solve some of the world’s challenges and fulfill our mission statement of being “a catalyst for breakthrough innovations that provides high-impact academic, industry and government research outcomes”. New faculty will be able to utilize tools and resources available in our core facilities which include:

  • Nanoscale electronic and biopharma cleanrooms for fabrication and integration of biosensor and microfluidic systems (Photolithography, Dry Etching, Thermal Processing, Wet processing, Deposition, Metrology, Post-processing, and Bio-lithography)

  • High Performance Computing Facility including access to multi-processor computing resources (POWERWULF™ ZXR1+ Cluster & Parallux for nanoscale research & analysis that includes 1,360 Total AMD EPYC Series CPU Cores, 4 x NVIDIA RTX -3090 GPU’s and Approx. 23 TB of raw flash Storage Space)

  • Advanced Microscopy Facility with a state-of-art helium ion microscope, scanning and transmission electron microscopes. ( AFM , Raman, IR and sample preparation facility)

  • Analytical Characterization Facility ( XPS , Xray Diffraction, MS/GC, MS GC/LC)

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging facility (3T Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( MRI ) scanner)

  • Materials Test Center (environmental chambers, dynamic mechanical analyzers, goniometry, DSC and impact testing)

  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility (400 and 700 MHz NMR with liquid solid and cold probe capability)

Requirements:

Doctor of Philosophy degree in a Physical Science or Engineering discipline.

Discipline must be able to tie in some way to the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering.

Preferred:

At least two years of post-doctoral experience, Faculty experience, or industry experience
