KBR is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to support the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission which is an international collaboration between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) to study space-based gravitational waves. This work will be performed under Goddard MIST II contract for the KBR’s Science and Space Division.

The Senior Mechanical Designer will be responsible for:

  • Provide pre-formulation, formulation, and implementation mechanical design and integration and test support services including inputs to the telescope mechanical requirements, interface requirements, and trade studies as needed

  • Support all mechanical design aspects of GSFC telescope development for the LISA mission.

  • Provide mechanical design inputs to the telescope vendor fabrication and assembly as needed

  • Providing analysis and test documentation for CAD models and drawings for all mechanical hardware

  • Requirements for CAD modeling in Creo Parametric 10, with Windchill for PLM

  • Reviewing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) decisions for compliance

  • Collaboration with our engineering leads and our manufacturers to ensure compliance with requirements

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience and strength in Creo Parametric

  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 GD&T specification

  • 10 – 15 years of related professional work experience

  • History of working with spacecraft at NASA Goddard Space Flight center, or another NASA center

  • Ability to provide guidance and expertise in mechanical design

  • Capability to organize and coordinate task level efforts including interfacing with mechanical and structural engineers

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and energetic environment

EDUCATION- High School diploma or equivalent

LOCATION - This work will be performed in a hybrid working environment. Occasional attendance to the GSFC facility supporting team interchange meetings will be required.

Basic Compensation:

$149,900.00 - $224,800.00

The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
