Corewell Health Director, Pharmacy - Procurement Strategy in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Summary

Directs, plans, and leads pharmacy business operations functions. Coordinates activities between the various stakeholders within Pharmacy, Revenue Cycle, Supply Chain Management, Business Intelligence and Analytics, and Finance. Identifies and works to improve clinical and non-clinical processes by leveraging automation ( ie , automated dispensing cabinets and inventory management systems) and technology ( ie , electronic medical records). Works closely with Information Services and Pharmacy leaders to develop and maintain a pharmacy technology roadmap. Oversees 340B programs at Corewell Health and coordinates policy and operational changes with pharmacy leaders and authorizing officials at respective entities. Coordinates Corewell Health Delivery System pharmacy medication purchasing , distribution, recall, and contracting activities .

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates closely with departmental directors to prioritize initiatives from organizational vision and develops action-oriented goals. Uses organizational knowledge gained by connecting people and teams to drive changes effectively .

  • Provides financial/revenue expertise in planning new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue. Manages costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non- value added processes.

  • Directs pharmacy purchasing across Corewell Health Delivery System. Collaborates closely with Supply Chain Services and hospital and medical group pharmacy leadership to ensure patient needs are met. Manages drug wholesaler and direct to manufacturer purchasing agreements.

  • Plans, prepares, implements, monitors and controls assigned areas’ operational and capital budget to ensure sound fiscal management consistent with the goals of Corewell Health. Develops programs and collaborative strategies to enhance growth and revenue for service areas .

  • Develops and maintains a pharmacy technology roadmap in close collaboration with Pharmacy, Informatics, and Information Services leadership. Responsible for third party vendor agreements, including but not limited to, 340B software, automated dispensing systems, and automated compounding systems.

  • Develops and maintains quality monitoring system to continuously monitor and measure the quality, safety and outcomes of business services. Develops service quality indicators to evaluate unit performance, staff performance, and develops improvement plans to correct variances. Participates in and facilitates interdisciplinary performance initiatives .

  • Collaborates with the Pharmacy leaders, Revenue Management Services, Finance, medical staff, nursing staff, other departments and/or professional groups to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services that support patient care delivery, and plan effective utilization of workforce, facilities and equipment .

    Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree Business, accounting, health administration, or related field

  • Preferred Master's Degree Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or other related field

  • 5 years of relevant experience Specialized experience in operational, business, technology, ambulatory or clinical pharmacy Required

  • 3 years of relevant experience Pharmacy or healthcare leadership Required

  • Experience using pharmacy financial reporting systems and managing pharmacy budgets Required

  • Experience with successful development and execution of strategic and operational plans Required

  • Experience in identifying improvement opportunities and engaging key stakeholders to deliver on the opportunity Required
