Colorado Mesa University TRIO Upward Bound Advisor in Grand Junction, Colorado

Summary: The TRIO Upward Bound (UB) program, a title IV (TRIO) program, is funded through the U.S. Department of Education. Advisors will organize and manage the academic year component of the project and assist the Director in providing direction for the program organization, managing curriculum and instructional components of the summer services. The Advisors will take lead on the logistics and implementing the summer academy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, execute, and evaluate tutoring and target school relationships. Assist in identifying, recruiting, and selecting student participants Provide project information to target schools Assist in assessing and prescribing a plan of project services for each participant Establish and maintain a tutoring and high school relations record system Work to recruit students, conduct participant follow-up, and meet with school staff Maintain communication between project participants, parents, and target schools Provide leadership for effective parental and community involvement Prepare CSPs for participants in conjunction with the Director Create recruiting publications and web site guidance from the professional staff Input data into the curriculum and instructional record system and generate reports

Please note that all the positions require excellent written and oral communication skills and prefer applicants with experience working with economically and educationally disadvantaged youth.

Minimum Qualifications Required: Bachelor s degree in education or related field Minimum of 3 years experience counseling or advising youth Previous experience teaching secondary students Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with school personnel, parents, students, and community professionals

Preferred Qualifications: Clear understanding of Colorado postsecondary educational systems and procedures. Experience working with culturally diverse people in an academic setting. Someone with background similar to that of participants. Bilingual in English/Spanish.
