Northrop Grumman Deployables Group has an opening for a Sr Principal Tool Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Goleta, CA or Oxnard, CA.

We're seeking a motivated team player to Lead and assist in the Development and implementation of Tooling activities to support the production & Test. The typical candidate has a background/experience/education in manufacturing/mechanical engineering, design, graphics, writing/ illustration, views, and animation.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external

  • Coordinate/develop & execute test plans

  • Performing tolerance analysis to ensure form/fit/function

  • Conduct root cause failure investigations and implement associated corrective actions

  • Develop & evaluate process improvements

  • Leading a Product Development Team with new product designs to ensure manufacturability, include GSE requirements, validate process/technology.

  • Developing manufacturing processes, plans, and procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment in support of our process work instructions and visual aids of our shop planning process and other functions that affect product performance.

  • Managing all phases of project: design, document, fabricate, assemble and validate.

  • Execute to the IMS and DRP (Drawing Release Plan), creation and coordination of ims schedules

Core Competencies

  • Manufacturing Methods - Knowledge of manufacturing, methods, fabrication processes (e.g., forming, stamping, machining, heat treatment, machines/machine tools, cutting tools and fluids, N/C programming, instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems). Ability to select the best method of producing parts, tools or assemblies. Verifiable performance record that includes the various aspects of assembly line operation

  • Project Management – Exhibit the ability for project management and leadership. Coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external.

  • Computer Aided Design Tools - Basic knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (NX), CREO, SolidWorks). Able to manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare NX to measurement data, create stereo lithography files).

  • Engineering Drawings & Specs - Basic ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Ability to be certified in GD&T AMSE 14.5-2018

Basic Qualifications for Sr Principal Tool Engineer:

  • 9 Years experience with Bachelor's in STEM Degree (Science, Technical, Engineering, or Mathematical), 7 Years with Masters; 10-15 work experience in Aerospace.

  • Experience in medium to large-scale tooling fabrication and/or production fabrication including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing operations

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access

  • Ability to work on location (Oxnard & Goleta) any shift

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Direct Aerospace Tooling experience

  • Direct Experience with NX and or CREO and SolidWorks.

  • ASME Certificate in GD&T ASME 14.5-2018

Salary Range: $120,900 - $181,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
