Toyon Research Corporation Marine Observer Intern in Goleta, California

U.S. Citizenship Required.Ability to qualify for a US Department of Defense security clearance required.

Toyon is seeking a highly motivated intern to assist with Marine Observer system testing, packaging, inventory organization, and data analysis. The Marine Observer system consists of infrared cameras and computer equipment, and is used for marine mammal protection activities. Intern candidates must have at least a basic knowledge of biology and be a college or university student pursuing a Bachelors degree or an advanced degree. Knowledge of whale ecology and identification is a bonus, but not required. Ability to assist with scientific report writing/editing and having a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is a plus, but not required.

Requirements

::: {bind="html: Job.Requirements"} - Well organized and detail-oriented (especially able to log data precisely and accurately) - Comfortable working on marine vessels, setting up and operating equipment onboard boats, and able to handle sea conditions in decent weather (does not get sea sick) - Able to assist in carrying and transporting technical gear to/from boats - Excels at self-paced tasks requiring focus and extended periods of repetitive work, such as reviewing and annotating video data - Ability to work with desktop computers, configure software parameters, and organize data - Has a Can-Do attitude is able to follow directions - Available to work a variable schedule to support Marine Observer product deliveries as needed. This position is for work on an as-needed basis as dictated by Marine Observer customer requirements.

Candidates must be available to start work no later than March 17th, 2025.

The hourly pay range for the Marine Observer Intern position is $22.00 to $37.00 per hour.

The posted pay range values provide the candidate with guidance on annual base compensation for the position, exclusive of overtime, bonus, and benefits-related compensation, over a range of qualifications that may fit hiring objectives. Toyon Research Corporation will consider the individual candidates education, work experience, applicable knowledge, skills and training, among other factors, when preparing an offer of employment.
