Position Overview:

Responsible for affiliate's Infection Prevention program providing expert consultation and support to patient care delivery and department operations with professional responsibility in the following functions: nursing, surveillance, infectious disease exposure response, data analysis and interpretation, inspection, control measures, education, evaluation, performance improvement and recommendations. Reports infectious disease exposure risk issues and recommended remediation steps to the appropriate foundation leadership and committees in a timely manner. All work is conducted in compliance with Institute for Medical Quality (IMQ) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)/Cal-OSHA regulatory requirements, and other relevant regulatory and professional guidelines and in partnership with the public health department as appropriate.

Job Description :

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's in Nursing, public health, microbiology, or epidemiology

  • Develops training materials; facilitates compliance with mandatory infection control training and educational requirements of staff; conducts new employee orientation. Conducts specialized training and other training as appropriate.

  • Provides current infection control literature, serving as an educational resource in the community and/or hospital/facility.

  • Serves as a resource of information for patient, employee and physician concerns.

MONITORING AND SURVEILLANCE

  • Performs ongoing surveillance of infections in patients; provides infection prevention and control consultation to providers regarding disease exposure response; contacts patients to collect pertinent information as needed; conducts chart review to collect relevant disease exposure information as needed; at the direction of the provider and/or public health department, coordinates exposure control measures specific to each patient; compiles and analyses surveillance data to identify epidemiological variations in levels of disease and to develop appropriate measures for prevention and control.

  • Inspects the environment, including, but not limited to sterile instrument processing and high level disinfection practices, and observes and evaluates personnel activities for the purpose of detecting possible infection hazards and to evaluate compliance with standards set by the Infection Control & Quality Committee.

  • Participates in the evaluation and implementation of medical equipment and products that provide optimal employee and patient safety from an infection control perspective.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

  • RN-Registered Nurse of California

  • OR MD-Medical Doctor

  • OR PharmD-Pharmacist

  • OR PA-Physician Assistant

  • OR NP-Nurse Practitioner

  • OR DPM-Doctor of Podiatry

  • OR DO-Doctor of Osteopathy

  • CIC-Infection Prevention and Control Certification within 36 months

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, statistical analysis, standards and technology of patient care, infectious disease, sterilization, sanitation and disinfection practices and/or adult education principles.

Must have the ability to interact with all levels of foundation employees and medical staff as well as, interfacing directly with external agencies and organizations.

Must have ability to creatively and effectively solve complex problems and manage crises.

Computer literate, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, word processing, and statistical software. Includes knowledge and ability to use online services.

Ability to interpret and implement accrediting and regulatory requirements relating to the practice of infection control (e.g. IMQ, Title 22, CMS, and OSHA)

Ability to apply mathematical concepts (e.g., fractions, percentages, proportions and statistics) for analysis and problem solving.

Ability to create and translate clinical data into reports and presentations for appropriate audience.

Ability to define issues, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Critical thinking and analytical skills with a keen attention to details.

Ability to influence others by persuasion and problem solving to achieve desired outcome.

Collaboration skills to facilitate open sharing of information and cooperation with various stakeholders

Displays a customer service focus in all decisions and actions.

Pay Range is $57.74 to $83.71 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
