UNC Health Care Department Secretary - Neurodiagnostics in Goldsboro, North Carolina

Summary:

The Secretary, Neurodiagnostics, supports the smooth operation of the department by providing receptionist and clerical support. The Secretary is responsible for scheduling patients for procedures, processing orders for in- and out- patients, filing, faxing reports, and communicating with patients, guests and departmental teammates. Coordinates patient information, insurance reviews and approvals, and patient account billing.

Responsibilities:

  1. Receives, greets and directs patients and visitors on the phone and in person. Collects and provides information using good customer service skills.

  2. Ensures provider’s written and verbal orders are documented for procedures to meet department specific criteria.

  3. Completes patient search ensuring no duplicate medical record, correct procedure date, and correct visit number prior to entering orders, procedures, or therapies.

  4. Ensure orders are processed daily for Cardiology, Respiratory and Neurology procedures.

  5. Ensures all orders are written properly on the daily work sheets.

  6. Provides administrative support as directed by Director or other department leaders.

  7. Types forms, manuals, and correspondence promptly. Organizes and maintains master forms as assigned.

  8. Schedules Cardiology, Respiratory and Neurology procedures.

  9. Reports or troubleshoots equipment malfunctions to service teams and/or supervisor.

  10. Maintains work area and an adequate inventory of office supplies. As needed, submits supply requisitions electronically or completes proper purchasing forms.

  11. Follows manual procedures during computer down time and enters data accurately when computer becomes operational.

  12. Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements.

  13. Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees as requested.

  14. Participates in performance improvement activities.

  15. Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems.

  16. Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended care and services to all patients.

  17. Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients.

High School Diploma Required.

Licensure/Certification

None.

Experience

Prior experience as an Administrative Assistant in a similar field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Good interpersonal and customer service skills.

• Detail oriented and accurate.

• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

• Proficient with MS Office and EPIC. Able to learn new software rapidly.

Valid NC Driver’s License: No

If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
