Job Description

This position reports to the Assistant General Counsel (AGC) and will work with other lab counsel, management and staff at all levels within NREL. Key responsibilities of the position encompass:
Conducting thorough analyses of potential conflicts of interest by laboratory staff
Collaborating with relevant stakeholders to gather necessary information for conflict assessment
Assessing conflicts to determine the level of involved risk
Working closely with senior management and the Legal Counsel to develop appropriate conflict resolution/mitigation strategies
Evaluating and recommending conflict resolution actions, such as declining representation, outside activity requests and/or implement screening procedures
Maintaining detailed and accurate records of all conflict assessments and resolutions
Documenting the rationale behind conflict assessments and the decisions made for future reference and auditing purposes
Communicating with laboratory staff regarding conflicts of interest recommendations and outcomes
Ensuring compliance with all internal and external laboratory requirements
Staying informed about changes in laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to conflicts of interest and applying to COI activities
Developing and updating policies and procedures related to conflict identification, assessment, and resolution to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Contributing to strategic improvements to the conflicts of interest program including process enhancements, change management, and client outreach
Overseeing development and improvement of information management systems related to conflict identification, assessment, and resolution
Providing training and guidance to staff on conflict identification and resolution processes
Promoting a culture of ethical conduct and compliance within the laboratory regarding conflict management
Communicating effectively with internal stakeholders, including legal, business, and management teams, to discuss and resolve conflict-related matters.

Basic Qualifications
Professional II- Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience. General knowledge and application of technical standards, principles, theories and techniques. Frequent application of industry concepts and principles. General knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Skilled in problem solving, written and verbal communication. Ability to use various computer software programs.
Professional III-Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Strong leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Job Profile: Professional III / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 - $120,800
Job Profile: Professional II / Annual Salary Range: $63,600 - $104,900
NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
