Ford and SK On are investing billions in Kentucky and Tennessee including building three state-of-the-art battery manufacturing facilities between the two campuses at BlueOval City in Tennessee and BlueOval SK Battery Park in Kentucky. These brand-new advanced manufacturing facilities will use Ford’s 100 years of automobile manufacturing expertise and SK On’s 30+ years of electric vehicle battery expertise to become the world’s best battery manufacturer.
About the Opportunity
The Learning and Development (L&D) Strategist is responsible for enhancing overall people capability to meet evolving technology and manufacturing advances. The successful candidate will play a strategic role bringing in-depth knowledge spanning all aspects of learning and development to meet Ford Motor Company’s training related objectives. They will have a genuine passion for employee development and engagement to accelerate the transition of Ford leading the electric revolution.
As a Learning and Development Strategist you should have experience with adult learning, program / project management (Including time, key milestones, budgets and expenditures), identifying and developing immersive and engaging e-learning and instructor led solutions, setting instructional design standards, and use of metrics for accountability and sustainability.
The L & D Strategist has responsibility for employee development data entry and reporting. They also must work with Corporate L & D to develop work plans to integrate manufacturing into the larger talent strategy. This may include development or re-development of processes and procedures as required.
Additional responsibilities include deploying Launch Workforce standards across all North America plants providing leadership and guidance to plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive readiness plan that prepares the hourly and salaried workforce to achieve flawless launch execution.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and execute a learning and development roadmap advancing both the future and current workforce’s capabilities and skills to ensure the content is delivered with the highest impact while remaining cost effective
Assess training needs to drive training initiatives by partnering with cross-functional organizations to prioritize, develop and deploy engaging, comprehensive, and blended learning curriculum, including instructor led and e-learning solutions, that enhance learner development, employee experience and retention.
Manage the curriculum development of all training programs and selection of outside training catalogues and content
Manage budgets and expenditures
Negotiate contracts & agreements including managing the expectations of the contracts to ensure agreed upon services are being delivered on time with quality
Ensure a culture of learning to enhance the knowledge, skills, and behaviors of the employees to enable them to support the needs of the business
Establish feedback loops and training metrics to measure effectiveness, impact and areas for improvements to ensure program is meeting the organization’s needs. Maintain a metrics package that enables ongoing measurement.
Organize hiring and onboarding activities
Create communication strategies so employees and leaders are aware of available training offerings
Lead L&D governance to solicit feedback and ensure standardization of training
Organize and develop workshops as required
Coordinate with IT on necessary technology improvements or devices to enhance the training experience
Builds trust with program teams by creating an environment where honesty and integrity are the standard
Support LMS administration including ensuring records of completion
Supervise, mentor, coach, and develop L&D and Launch Planning Specialist
Oversee workforce readiness planning for sites engaged in new product, process and facility launches
Provide leadership to plant launch teams in support of workforce readiness activities to achieve flawless launch execution
Ensure launch workforce readiness plans for plant employees are incorporated and aligned with corporate and production system processes
Support the management of multiple launch programs simultaneously with the ability to quickly adapt to business requirements
Facilitate cross functional planning and alignment by providing launch project management strategies and support
Develop strategies to assist vendors and suppliers in meeting company launch objectives
Leverage Launch Planning Specialist across programs to achieve maximum launch support coverage at all North America manufacturing launch sites
Develop strategies, based on cycle plan, to support manufacturing plants and product launches globally
Preferred experience leading training programs in high volume manufacturing operations
Maintain confidentiality of company information
Qualifications
2+ years' experience working as a L&D Manager, Training Manager, or other relevant position
BSc or BA degree in Business, Learning and Development, Organizational Development, Psychology or other related area; an additional certification such as CPLP will be a bonus
Established and comprehensive knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effectiveness
Strong organizational and business skills to scope, design, develop, and launch learning content
Significant experience with effective learning and development methods, including e-learning platforms and practices, to create a world class training program
Strong analytical skills with the ability to work through complex matters, gather necessary information to create a framework that translates into systems, processes, and solutions
Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Ability to effectively manage large scale projects including project scope, deliverables, budgeting, timelines, and resources
Preferred experience with new system installations or manufacturing plant launches
Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build relations with employees and vendors
Comfortable interfacing with company leadership, internal and external customers, and teams outside of your reporting structure
Self-starter with the ability to work independently while thriving in a fast-paced dynamic environment and under pressure
Continuous Improvement Mindset
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
Ability to build trust by creating an environment where honesty and integrity are the standard
Practical experience with MS Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
