**[GENERAL DESCRIPTION: [Under general supervision of the Fire Marshal, incumbentperforms fire code inspections and plan reviews, assuring compliance with the Connecticut Fire Safety Code, the Connecticut Fire Prevention Code and referenced standards.

- Performs fire code inspections of buildings and public establishments and prepares related reports.
- Reviews plans and specifications to inform inspections, review abatement actions, and to assure fire safety code compliance for building permits.
- Issues abatement orders where violations are found or where regulations concerning flammable and combustible liquids, flammable gases, hazardous materials, explosives, fireworks and fuel emergencies apply; conducts follow up inspections.
- Maintains current knowledge of fire safety codes and standards.
- Provides code consultation toproperty owners, developers, contractors, and the public. Responds in a timely manner to complaints.
- Contributes to a respectful and safe work environment by fostering a culture of positive communication, ethical behavior, and emphasis on providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
