THIS PART-TIME ROLE IS 24 HOURS PER WEEK WITH A VARIED SCHEDULE. NOT ELIGIBLE FOR FT BENEFITS, BUT PAID TIME OFF INCLUDING HOLIDAY, PERSONAL, VACATION AND SICK IS PROVIDED.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under broad supervision of the Director of Planning and Land Use Services, incumbent provides technical support to the planning staff, which includes performing field inspections, enforcing land use regulations and ordinances and assisting in the review of land use applications. Work involves completing reviews of approved building sites prior to the issuance of a building permit and inspecting for compliance with erosion and sedimentation control measures and other permit conditions. Makes routine enforcement decisions and coordinates the filing reviews for various land use projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Reviews site plans for compliance with sedimentation and erosion control and conditions of approval as part of the building permit review process.
  2. Conducts site inspections of development projects for compliancy with conditions of approval and sedimentation and erosion control and recommends enforcement action, as necessary.
  3. Coordinates the review and filing of approved land development projects.
  4. Confers with property owners, developers, contractors, engineers, and architects on construction and compliancy matters. Answers questions on code requirements from the public.
  5. Prepares inspection reports and maintains related records.
  6. Maintains Planning records and maps.
  7. Participates in staff review of plot plans and pending land use applications.
  8. Participates in preparation of staff reports and meeting materials.
  9. Contributes to a respectful and safe work environment by fostering a culture of positive communication and ethical behavior, with an emphasis on providing exceptional service to internal and external customers

OTHER DUTIES:

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:

  • Knowledge of
    • site plan elements and erosion and sedimentation control measures
    • general land use planning principles and the ability to provide recommendations on compliance
    • construction trades and practices
    • State traffic laws
  • Ability to
    • review and interpret maps, site plans and information contained in land use approvals
    • coordinate the filing of planning records, maps and various documents
    • enforce codes and regulations with firmness and tact
    • Write accurate, clear, concise and comprehensive reports
    • communicate clearly and effectively and maintain positive working relationships

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough or difficult surfaces; recurring stooping, climbing or walking; recurring lifting of items weighing up to20 pounds.
  • Subject to extreme weather conditions such as heat, humidity, wet and cold
  • Moderate risks requiring safety precautions, such as protective clothing, boots, gloves, hard hat

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years experience in municipal planning, zoning or construction inspection ork

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides a demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:

  • Drivers License
