Program Summary

KBR leads the government services world contingency market by providing responsive, full-service logistics support to forces deployed around the world under the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program contract (LOGCAP). KBR’s enduring mission support of the LOGCAP program dates to 1992 when we served as the contract’s original prime contractor. Today, we have a workforce of over 6,000 people representing 40 nationalities who perform work on the contract in 14 countries.

Job Summary

  • The Gunsmith performs service and repairs on military weapons and weapon support systems within a secure storage and repair facility, utilizing government-provided tools, support equipment, and materials.

  • Conducts diverse responsibilities, encompassing field-level maintenance on US Military weapons and weapon support systems, as well as tasks related to targeting, range finding, and specific night vision devices.

  • Engages in diagnostics, parts identification and requisition, and repairs adhering to technical specifications and specified repair times.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Designs, fabricates, modifies, repairs, and services foreign and domestic firearms, weapons, and accessories, with a focus on M9, M4, M16, M249, M242 / 25MM bushmaster.

  • Creates computer prototypes based on customer input, utilizing essential knowledge of munitions and ballistics to complete these tasks.

  • Conducts major repairs on both foreign and domestic standard and non-standard small arms weapons, capable of building custom pistols or rifles with minimal supervision.

  • Fabricates special jigs, fixtures, and other tooling with some supervision.

  • Reads and comprehends blueprint drawings, working from them under direct supervision.

  • Supports shop functions, including bead blasting, preparing metal parts for refinishing, and managing ammo inventory.

  • Functions as the primary instructor on most standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems.

  • Performs small arms inspection, maintenance, and major repairs in accordance with technical specifications and specified repair times.

  • Establishes and enforces shop safety procedures for working in a small arm environment.

Basic Qualifications (Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)

  • 4+ years of experience as a military Unit Armorer.

  • Must have the ability to obtain a favorable TIER-1 investigation result and a CAC.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a NACI.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift 60 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching.

  • Excellent knowledge of gunsmithing tools and procedures, with moderate knowledge of firearms operating principles and ballistics or completion of 92Y Unit Armorer Certification Course: 551-F29 (MTT-A/G) or equivalent civilian training.

  • Typically attends factory Armorer’s courses for small arms within the arms room inventory.

  • Knowledge acquired through technical schools and/or on-the-job experience.

  • Able to plan and conduct training as required.

  • Requires computer literacy; experienced user with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Possesses necessary knowledge in the use of hand tools, machine tools, and equipment required for assigned duties, with the ability to design and construct prototype small arms from drawings or customer input.

  • Thorough understanding of firearm operation principles and relevant military logistics and security requirements/regulations.

  • Moderate knowledge of internal/external ballistic theories.
