Hobart and William Smith Colleges Assistant Coach - Hobart Football in Geneva, New York

The successful candidates will assist the head coach in the organization and management of a competitive NCAA Division III football program. The position responsibilities will include teaching and coaching student-athletes for successful competition; supporting student-athletes’ academic success; recruiting prospective students; scouting opponents; fundraising; developing alumni and parent relations; administrative tasks; and other duties as assigned. Offensive, defensive, special teams’ responsibilities will be determined based on candidate’s skills and program needs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Coaching:

    o teach student-athletes all related principles and rules of the sport

    o assist in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of practice and game plans

    o operate digital platforms to develop training, practice and game plans

    o maintain an exemplary standard of conduct, which reflects the highest level of professionalism and good judgment

    o be knowledgeable of and compliant with all institutional, department, NCAA and conference policies, rules and regulations

  • Counseling and Advisement of Student-Athletes:

    o develop and maintain effective communication with student-athletes

    o reinforce academic success as a priority

    o encourage student-athletes to foster a positive relationship with faculty, deans and staff

  • Recruiting:

    o effectively recruit prospective student-athletes under the direction of the head coach and consistent with the Colleges’ mission

    o maintain the sport-specific recruiting electronic database

    o recruit student-athletes who coincide with the academic profile of HWS students

    o maintain open communication with other Hobart coaches regarding shared prospects

  • Professional Development:

    o maintain active membership in professional sport organizations

    o pursue formal and informal educational opportunities

    o participate in athletic department programming for coaches

  • Community Engagement/Fundraising

    o promote the sport and Hobart Athletics in area communities

    o maintain a positive relationship with interested constituents (e.g. youth groups, civic organizations, media)

    o assist in the planning and management of fundraising activities

    o develop a positive relationship with Hobart alumni and parents

  • Operational Team Responsibilities (approximately 30% of full time responsibilities):

    o serve on Athletics Department operational teams (e.g., game day manager)

    o assist with special events (e.g. Block H Banquet, Hall of Fame)

    o assist with department initiatives

    o represent the department on campus committees

    Other Information:

    This is a full-time, 10-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Evening and weekend work are required. Salary is $48,715.

    Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. A minimum of four years football playing and/or coaching experience at the college-level required. Candidates must demonstrate strong potential to teach, lead and counsel college student-athletes and have enthusiasm for the recruiting duties of the position. The candidate must be a person of integrity, high ethical standards, have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

    The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and mission of HWS Athletics. Competence with technology resources and a current U.S. driver’s license are vital to fulfilling the responsibilities of this position. The candidate must be willing to work nights and weekends.
