County of Gaston Systems Administrator in Gastonia, North Carolina

Examples of Duties

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

  • Perform Active Directory (AD) duties including user, server, and system validations, creations, and modifications. Responsible for all AD integration actions required for authentication of all types. Maintain and modify solutions such as DHCP, domain trusts, certificate authorities, group policies and DNS as needed.

  • Provide Tier 3 support of the county's Data Center, Virtual platforms (both server and client), enterprise directories, Cloud Storage, messaging environment, and backup/recovery processes.

  • Ensures that corrective and preventative measures are performed on existing systems to reduce the likelihood of problem recurrence. Keep data center hardware and software upgraded to or above minimal viable standards.

  • Works with Data Center Manager and colleagues on services including file server solutions, value-added solution providers, virtualization practitioners, and backup/recovery efforts.

  • Collaborates with internal staff, vendors, and other stakeholders to provide technical solutions to business problems. Build strong relationships with our vendors and with the departments we support.

  • Works primarily with the Data Center Manager and optionally with IT Management peers and/or IT Leadership to adhere to timetables, resources, and training.

  • Attends invitation-only meetings with colleagues and management to provide departmental integration and sharing of common information to promote productivity and efficiency.

  • Responsible for adhering to the Gaston County IT Business Continuity Plan, Incident Response Plan, and Disaster Recovery Plans.

  • Adheres to a professional team atmosphere at work.

  • Attends training classes/seminars and utilizes knowledge gained to maintain and improve job performance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited two or four-year college or university and two plus years of experience in data center and virtualization administration.

Working knowledge of networks with ability to troubleshoot technologies (locally and remotely) like Active Directory, Microsoft 365/0ffice 365, TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS.

Understanding of multiple Virtual machine (VM) technologies including AHV, Citrix and VMWare. Familiarity with SAN solutions and related compute, memory, network, and software requirements.

Ability to grasp concepts of cloud-based repositories including A WS, Wasabi, and Azure.

Will consider any combination of education and experience which meets the desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities. (Applicable job experience can be substituted for education.)

Graduation from an accredited two- or four-year college or university with a degree in Information Technology and 3 years of experience in data center and virtualization administration preferred.

Preferred certifications in Microsoft Azure/Entra or related technical solutions.

Possession of a valid vehicle operating permit is required prior to operating County or private vehicles on County business. Compliance is also required with departmental safety rules and general safety rules described in the employee handbook.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Also, job requires the physical capacity to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to fifty pounds and is subject to the minimum hazardous conditions of a normal office environment.

Additional Information

Minimally qualified applicants will be brought in at 25% of the salary range:

Systems Administrator I: $54,502.55 - $89,814.92

Systems Administrator II: $62,076.77 - $96,097.00

Systems Administrator III: $76,046.00 - $102,825.06

The candidates selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
