Job Summary

Operate service and maintain according to prescribed procedures all types of Cranes and equipment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate, service, adjust and maintain all types of Cranes and equipment.

  • Install, remove, operate and maintain equipment used on all types of Cranes and equipment.

  • Install, remove, inspect, adjust and maintain all types of booms and jibs on Cranes.

  • Install, remove, inspect, adjust and maintain all cables on all types of Cranes.

  • Lift, remove, and install assemblies such as substation equipment, gas operations regulator stations and equipment, generating station equipment, transformers, pipe, poles and other heavy equipment with Cranes in open areas and around energized equipment.

  • Perform required inspections and complete all associated documentation for all types of Cranes and equipment.

  • Responsible for the proper care of Company tools and equipment that are assigned to them during working hours.

  • Keep assigned equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.

  • Direct and instruct employees assigned to work with them.

  • Assist in the training of other employees.

  • Perform similar or less skilled work in this classification or, when the diversity of work load requires, perform similar or less skilled work in equal or lower classifications.

  • Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules and operating regulations and practices.

  • Complete any reports and forms used in connection with the performance of duties.

Required Qualifications for Position

Have met all the qualifications of the progression process to final Crane Operator, acquires, and maintains the following qualifications:

  • Successfully complete the 18 month Crane Operator Qualifications, or equivalent.

  • Have a working knowledge of, as well as the required aptitudes and abilities to operate Cranes and equipment.

  • Have a working knowledge of the "Operators Manuals" for cranes and equipment.

  • Have a thorough working knowledge of cable types and working strengths.

  • Have a thorough working knowledge of lifting capacities and working capacities at various radiuses.

  • Have normal vision or corrected to normal vision with glasses.

  • Maintain a current CDL physical and license.

  • Completed requirements and continuously maintains the required NCCCO certification required to operate all Nipsco booms and cranes.
