Description of Job
This is a temporary field based position that involves working in all aspects of maintaining a State Wildlife Area. This role requires the employee to work alongside CPW staff as well as being able to work alone and in remote locations. The temporary property technician will be responsible for the day to day activities as well as long term projects involving multiple State Wildlife Areas throughout Garfield Counties. This role requires maintenance shop and field knowledge and would benefit from someone with a farm and ranch or agricultural background. There will be occasional interactions with the public and upkeep of shooting range. The temporary property technician has a number of responsibilities and they are integral to the successful operation and safety of our State Wildlife Areas. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Irrigation.
Identifying, spraying, and monitoring noxious weed.
Fence and gate repair.
Hand tool, power tool, and chainsaw use.
Safe operation of tractors, trucks and trailers, ATV’s and other state equipment.
Mowing and trimming.
Maintenance and cleaning of restrooms.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must have a current & valid driver’s license required for operating a state vehicle
The work-site will provide some uniform items, however the employee may be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.
Applicants may be subject to successful completion of a comprehensive background check.
Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week.
Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Must be available to work varied shifts (please provide additional details if known).
Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
Previous experience in conservation, farming, ranching, or construction is highly desired.
Possess an interest in conservation and willingness to learn.
Basic shop and field skills preferred.
Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team.
Must be willing and able to climb in and out of vessels and under trailers to perform job functions.
Must be willing and able to work outside which may involve inclement weather.
Must be able to lift 50-100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a workday.
