JOB SUMMARY:

This is a challenging position for a highly energetic individual with above average customer service skills who must be able to address the concerns and/or perspectives of a diverse community. The mission of the Adelphi University Department of Public Safety and Transportation is to enhance the quality of life for the entire Adelphi community by maintaining a secure and open environment where the safety of all is balanced with the rights of the individual. SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary for this union position is $50,000.

REPORTS TO:Captain of Operations, Emergency Management, Fire Life Safety and Training

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Maintains a safe and secure campus environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors as well as University buildings, facilities, and grounds by regularly patrolling assigned areas.

  • Observing for unauthorized personnel or activities, enforcing University rules, regulations and policies, and reporting violations to the appropriate authority.

  • Checking doors and locks for proper operation, securing and locking buildings and windows as directed, rendering assistance, and responding to emergency situations as appropriate.

  • Reduces the potential for injury, loss of life, property theft, and/or destruction of property by conducting visual surveys while conducting area checks and patrols potentially dangerous or unsafe areas, buildings, and conditions.

  • Enforces University parking and traffic regulations by being knowledgeable of the parking and traffic regulations, advising faculty, students, staff, and visitors about the parking rules and regulations, issuing parking tickets.

  • Assists in responding to weather, fire, medical, and security emergencies.

  • The ability to react quickly and appropriately to emergencies and threatening situations, make accurate observations and remember details of situations and individuals, and correctly interpret and apply policies, laws, rules, ordinances, and regulations to individual circumstances is required.

  • The ability to learn to operate the department emergency vehicles, develop knowledge of campus buildings and geography, and work effectively as a team member and individual is required.

  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

    REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Security Guard License.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Excellent communication and report writing skills are required.

  • CPR/AED Certificate required.

  • N.I.M.S and Narcan certifications a plus.

  • General computer knowledge is required.

    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior University Public Safety and/or law enforcement experience is required.

  • Pre-employment physical including drug testing for new officers will occur.

    HOURS:

  • Tuesday - Saturday, 12am - 7am.
