JOB SUMMARY:

Provides administrative supervision and support for all public safety and transportation functions. Supervises daily operations of bus and shuttle drivers. This position must effectively manage daily operations and solve short-term problems while consistently planning for the progress and modifications that inevitably occur as a result of needing to adapt to campus growth, construction and change. The position requires operating multiple public safety functions in a cost-effective manner while providing services of a high quality and responsiveness.

When directed assumes command and performs the duties of the Executive Director during the absence of the Executive Director. Candidate must be able to develop, maintain, and communicate department directives, policies, communications, and procedures. Candidate must be able to direct and coordinate crime prevention and investigation efforts, including strategies, data maintenance and analysis. Supervise all administrative personnel, transportation, and parking services while continuing to foster positive relations with the Adelphi community by working together to ensure a safe environment for everyone and Adelphi University.

The anticipated start date for this position will be around September 1st.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Public Safety and Security

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Develop and supervise administrative personnel, and transportation staff.

  • Consult with the Executive Director in planning projects, initiatives, and activities; develop strategies for achieving the department’s objectives and periodically assess effectiveness of those strategies.

  • Coordinate with Office of Community Concerns, Title IX, Environmental Health and Safety as instructed by the Executive Director.

  • Maintain tight fiscal controls in regards to all departmental overtime.

  • Provides administrative supervision to bus and shuttle drivers, consistently reviews bus and shuttle schedules for efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Serves as a liaison with internal and external constituents related to parking and transportation operations, enforcement, regulations, and guidelines based on thorough knowledge of contractual access and utilization of facilities.

  • Maintain and analyze statistical data related to parking operations and enforcement, transportation services, and inventory.

  • Perform assessment activities and provide training for all public safety personnel to ensure compliance with university policies, procedures and regulations.

  • Conduct annual inventory of all university assets; coordinate the disposal of outdated assets.

  • Maintain the integrity and security of all confidential records and reports within the department.

  • Develop and implement road maps to address recruitment, mentoring, hiring, promotional policies, and training needs to reflect diversity in Public Safety and Transportation.

  • Coordinate with third-party vendors that oversee access control systems, fire safety systems, CCTV, and ID system.

  • Oversee/monitor department finances with fiscal integrity.

  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • Strong managerial skills.

  • Understanding Clery, Title IX, and Workplace Violence

  • Excellent administrative, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.

  • Ability and experience to develop and draft policy, recommendations, procedures, reports, presentations, and communications, including skill in manipulating various types of data and information using computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office; Google Docs).

  • Ability to conduct and oversee public safety investigations.

  • Ability to work independently in a complex work environment.

  • Ability to establish successful relationships with law enforcement agencies.

  • Familiarity with all computer operations and spreadsheets.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to respond, oversee and physically assist in all emergency evacuations.

    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.

  • Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Five to seven years’ of experience working in law enforcement or security.

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ of experience of management responsibility of law enforcement or security.

  • Experience working in a university environment is preferred.

  • CPP certification or equivalent is preferred.
