Description
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Custodian with the Garden City Regional Airport. This position provides custodial services at the Garden City Regional Airport, ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment. Performs general cleaning duties in accordance with the Custodial Duties Schedule. The position works independently and supervised and uses considerable independent judgement.
Examples of Duties
Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the facilities per the Custodial Duties Schedule, which includes sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, polishing, dusting, trash removal, cleaning, sanitizing, washing, refilling supplies, clearing sidewalks and entrances of containments.
Is required to successfully complete a federal background check. Is required to successfully complete security training in accordance with federal regulations. Is required to comply with all local, state, and federal security regulations. Is required to maintain secured access control and confidentiality while performing tasks. Assists in reporting security related issues to appropriate personnel.
Interacts with the public on a regular basis and places high value on public perception of the city employee workforce, due to the highly visible nature of the job.
Sanitize and disinfect high touch areas, restrooms, seating, and surfaces.
Prepares site for daily operations (safety and security inspections, raising flags, ensuring passable walkways) for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and hazard free.
Inspects facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, identifying necessary repairs to facilities and/or equipment.
Maintains supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability of custodial items required to properly clean, maintain, and supply the facilities.
Monitors tenants and guests for the purpose of preventing injuries and ensuring site safety.
Provides feedback to supervisor to ensure effective and efficient procedures and quality service is provided.
Responds to requests for emergency, additional, or specialized custodial service requests.
Inventory and maintain product selection for vending machines and water cooler.
Prepares and completes written materials (work orders, inventory records, and inspection logs).
Secures facilities and grounds for purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.
Trains assigned personnel of duties.
Assists with snow and ice removal (e.g., shoveling, sweeping, sanding, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring necessary areas are free of snow and ice for safe passing.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be able to pass a federal background check and security threat assessment, have and maintain a valid driver license, and pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening. Must be able to read, write and comprehend material. Must be able to listen and apply information and instructions. Must be able to communicate electronically (computer/iPad/cell phone), verbally, or in writing.
Knowledge of the various components of custodial duties, cleaning, and proper floor and carpet maintenance. Considerable knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work. Working knowledge of simple hand tools. Working knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Skills in understanding and responding to customer needs. Skills in analyzing and solving technical problems within assigned duties. Skills in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and tools used in custodial maintenance operations including vacuum cleaner, carpet shampooer, floor buffer, floor burnisher, auto scrubber, hand tools, and power tools.
Education, Certification and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Two years of experience in custodial duties. Valid Kansas Driver's License.
Supplemental Information
Environment: Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
Physical Characteristics: Ability to lift 20-50 pounds. On occasion, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, wiping, washing, crouching, carrying, siting, standing, and walking.
