The Department of Marine Engineering Technology (MARE) in the College of Marine Sciences & Maritime Studies at Texas A&M University, located on the Galveston campus invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning August 1, 2025. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct high-impact research and teaching (undergraduate courses, both face-to-face and online) in one or more of the following areas: Decarbonization, Experimental Analysis Applied in Marine Fields, Renewable Energy, Internal Combustion Engines, Green and Sustainable Shipping, and Marine Alternative Fuels. Knowledge of LNG operations is desirable. The candidate will be expected to teach core courses such as Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, and Dynamics.

Successful candidates should have a clear plan to establish a vibrant research program, secure external research funding, and participate actively in advising, educating, and teaching undergraduate and graduate students. This person will also be expected to engage in internal (departmental and university) and external (professional) service and work with local industry to support the blue economy. Salary and research budget are competitive.

The Marine Engineering Technology program aims to produce graduates who become successful in the marine engineering industries related to design, operations, and management and who have technical competence in engineering systems and the practical applications of those systems. The program provides students with two scholastic avenues: a License Option and a Non-License Option. The License Option is intended for cadets of the Texas A&M Maritime Academy who take the U.S. Coast Guard license examination and earn their Merchant Mariner Credential, enabling them to serve as an engineering officer aboard a seagoing vessel. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications: The candidate’s expertise should be in one or more thematic research areas: Marine Applied Fluid Mechanics, Decolonization, Green and Sustainable Shipping, Pollution Control, Efficient Engines, Alternative Fuels, Marine Thermodynamics, and LNG operations. Preference will be given to individuals with experience in the marine industry and merchant marine credentials.
