SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a Registered Nurse Specialist position which is responsible for the supervision and coordination of all nursing services to an assigned group of people in a facility for the developmentally disabled. This position is responsible for the coordination of the activities of non-professional staff as they relate to the health of the people residing in the facility.
Administration of treatments, medications, and other care which requires the expertise of a professional Registered Nurse which may include, but is not limited to, starting IVs, phlebotomy, monitoring newly post-operative patients, tube feeding, and oxygen therapy. Confers closely with physicians whenever the condition of the individual warrants further assessment or intervention. Participates in crisis intervention to prevent hospitalization or re-hospitalization. Maintains adequate documentation in residential log daily, as needed in progress notes, daily report and any other required documentation to provide clear communication to other staff.
Establishes and maintains the currency of a comprehensive assessment of nursing needs from which a nursing care plan is developed. Using the knowledge gained from the assessment, participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team in the planning and implementation of treatments/programs for individual patients.
Provides oversight to other Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and paraprofessional staff in providing nursing related functions.
Incident Management:
Conduct an initial assessment and provide appropriate treatment as soon as possible after being notified or becoming aware of an injury or possible injury.
Complete Section II of the DDC Incident Report Form by providing a detailed description of the injury (size, shape, color, location on the body).
Indicate the treatment given and the plan of care.
Establish the Type of Incident and Level of Injury.
Take two (2) sets of photos and complete the Photographic Wound Documentation form.
Ensure the Florida Abuse Hotline is contacted if abuse, neglect, exploitation, mishandling, mistreatment, or sexual abuse/activity is witnessed, known or suspected.
Forward the Incident Report Form to the supervisor/in-charge staff for further action.
As warranted, comply, and assist authorized investigators from APD and other agencies, such as law enforcement, DCF Adult Protective Services, Medicaid Fraud Unit, and the Agency for Healthcare Administration.
Maintains and documents Support Staff’s competency as it relates to nursing delegated functions.
Delivers, attends and participates in Staff Development programs, Continuing Education programs, staff meetings, standing committee meetings, and other meetings as assigned.
Observes and documents physical and behavioral response to medications.
Relieves other professional staff as assigned. Performs supervisory functions as assigned,
Performs related duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Florida Driver’s License.
If hired with an out-of-state license a valid Florida State driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days.
Corrective Lenses Restricted license are acceptable provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating a state vehicle.
Must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
Must be willing to work beyond the normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels and meet the needs of the Agency.
Must maintain certification in Prevention and Safety Strategies, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Direct Care In-Service.
Must possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse license.
This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency per APD OP 2-0035.
This position is critical to the safety and supervision of residents and may require the incumbent to work beyond their normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels in the facility.

Ability to assist in lifting and transferring residents weighing more than 100 pounds, as needed.
Ability to successfully complete Prevention and Safety Strategies Training.

As a condition of employment, a person appointed to a position in the State Personnel System is required to participate in the Direct Deposit Program. BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
