The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey, and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve asFood Support Worker. T his position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This position involves skilled work in general cooking and preparation for Food Service Department.

  • Serves as shift supervisor/lead worker for the shift in absence of the Food Services Administrator.

  • Prepare and cooks meats, vegetables, soups, and gravies following standardized recipes for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner meals.

  • Portions and pans hot food items for delivery to residential buildings.

  • Maintains work are in a clean and sanitary condition. Cleans grills, stoves, cooking vats, kitchen equipment, serving utensils and equipment to and from campus area.

  • Coordinates the work of the support Service Aides. May be required on occasion to deliver and pick up food, utensils, and equipment to and from the campus area.

  • Sets up and backs the staff cafeteria serving line making sure that leftovers are utilized. Makes sure that the staff cafeteria serving line is continually stocked with food so that no item run out.

  • Fills out leftover portions on the production sheet for each meal. noting what use will be made of these leftovers.

  • Prepares food for and sets up tray line for residents. Checks the special diet trays before they leave kitchen in the absence of Food Service Administrator.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the equipment, procedures and techniques used in cooking, baking, and/or meat cutting.

  • Knowledge of the procedures for maintaining sanitary working conditions.

  • Ability to perform food service functions in one or more of the following areas: cooking, baking or meat cutting.

  • Ability to read and follow recipes and/or other instructions.

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of food service experience; or

  • Completion of a program of study from a vocational/technical school in a food service area.
