Job Description:

The UF Small Animal Hospital is seeking passionate Veterinary Technicians to join our incredible ECC team as ER service technicians. We are a VECCS-accredited Level-1 hospital providing care for over 46,000 patients annually. Our ECC team is one of the largest in the world consisting of VTS (ECC) technicians, board-certified criticalists, emergency clinicians, residents and interns, and over 70 veterinary technicians and technician assistants not to mention the client services team that supports the service 24/7. ECC collaborates with 16 other specialties within the small animal hospital including internal medicine, integrative medicine, diagnostic imaging, surgery, neurology, and oncology. The hospital is also supported by a full diagnostic reference laboratory and an impressive veterinary pharmacy support team.

Our service technicians play a major role along with the ECC faculty in supporting and mentoring our house officers and veterinary students on their clinical rotations in the ER and ICU services. This consists of assisting with patient exams, induction, and monitoring of patients under anesthesia for procedures, obtaining and submitting lab samples, performing triage, performing nursing care, assisting with admitting/discharging patients, and offering guidance to our students and house officers on ECC policies and protocols. In addition, the service techs are the backbone of our customer service/client relations. They perform client callbacks and relay diagnostic results, do technician recheck appointments and assist with client communications on the triage service.

Available Shifts

Wednesday - Saturday 2 pm-12 am. May require working alternate shifts, holidays, and weekends. This position is considered essential personnel and is part of the Emergency response team

Expected Salary:

Non-Credentialed Tech: $20-$27/hr

Credentialed Tech: $23 - $32/hr (salary based on credentials and supervisory experience)

Position eligible for additional 10%-20% shift differential

Minimum Requirements:

Veterinary Technician I: High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience

Veterinary Technician II: Credentialed veterinary technician

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of experience in emergency and/or critical care medicine

• Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program and/or certified veterinary technician or eligible to sit for the VTNE

• Knowledge of veterinary nursing care, especially critical care

• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology

• Knowledge of small animal anesthesia induction, maintenance, and patient monitoring

• Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications

• Ability to effectively maintain a working environment while in stressful situations

• Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various levels and responsibilities
