Job Description:

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life, the Associate Vice President for Health and Wellbeing and Executive Director of the Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) provides leadership and supervision for key areas within the Division of Student Life that focus on student health and wellbeing. These areas include the Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC), the Disability Resource Center (DRC), GatorWell (GW) Health Promotion Services, and indirect supervision to the Care Team (CARE) in the Dean of Students Office.

As the chief health and wellness officer for the Division of Student Life, The Associate VP and Executive Director of the CWC promotes health initiatives across all departments and the broader University. This role involves managing a budget of approximately $12 million and overseeing numerous full-time and part-time staff and faculty. The Associate VP also plays a crucial role in strategic planning, supporting health and wellbeing outcomes across the campus, and leading key University initiatives.

The incumbent is well-versed in strategies that address the evolving health and wellbeing needs of students. They oversee thedevelopment, management, and budgeting of all health-related programs within the portfolio (CWC, DRC, GW and CARE). This role includes the effective management of departmental facilities and technologies, as well as facilitating collaborations with stakeholders to positively impact student health outcomes.

The Associate VP and Executive Director works closely with various campus departments to promote student retention and persistence through health and wellbeing initiatives. They continually expand and adapt the services offered to meet the needs of the largest possible number of students. Key priorities include executive leadership, strategic planning, team development, external relations, financial planning, program evaluation, and policy development serving as a senior leader within the Division of Student Life.

  • Provides direct supervision and guidance to the Disability Resource Center, GatorWell Health Promotion Services, the Counseling and Wellness Center and indirect supervision to the Care Team in the Dean of Students Office. Ensures that students’ health and wellbeing is the strategic focus of the work for all departments of responsibility and embedded into the culture of the University where possible. Supports departmental leadership in the development and expenditure of budgeted funds totaling approximately $12 million.

  • Provides leadership, vision, and strategic planning to champion efforts that promote students’ overall health and wellbeing; and works to collaborate with university partners in creating new and enhancing current efforts related to the promotion of healthy behaviors, mental well-being, and student care. The AVP will advance a comprehensive approach to and assessment of services, programs, and policies to create a healthy and individualized student experience with promotional strategies that include student engagement.

  • Assists in providing leadership to the Division of Student Life through the Executive Team; shares insight and data with the Vice President for Student Life to assist in Divisional strategic planning. Works collaboratively with other departmental leadership within the Division of Student Life to promote student health and wellbeing for all students. Serves on university committees and task forces as needed. Represents the university in state, regional, and national professional organizations

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Life or other University leadership including but not limited to serving in on-call capacities and participating in other Divisional programs and services.

Expected Salary:

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum qualifications for the position include a doctoral degree in Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology. Seven years’ experience in university counseling centers with evidence of significant administrative experience. Successful applicant must have (1) doctoral degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology or counseling from an APA accredited or CACREP accredited doctoral program and (2) be licensed or license eligible as a mental health professional or psychologist in the state of Florida within one year of start date in position. Clinical licensure and supervision is necessary to meet Psychology Internship Program requirements and maintain Center accreditations.The Executive Director of the Counseling Center is a full-time position with clinical faculty status.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated expertise in providing effective collegiate health and well-being services and education within a large campus environment that represents students, families, and a campus community from a variety of backgrounds. Understanding of state-of-the-art technology as applied to the delivery of health and wellbeing services and programs. Experience in dealing with crisis at all levels. Documented history of positive and collaborative working relationships. Team player. Excellent communication skills and leadership ability. Ability to multi-task and excel in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
