MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of administrative experience.

A master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for the required experience.

Administrative or clerical experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which equals five (5) years can substitute for the above requirements.

Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional travel, including overnight and sometimes up to two weeks on an emergency program, required.

NOTES:

This position reports to work Monday through Friday.

JOB DUTIES:

General Statement: This is an administrative position that serves as the primary support position on the High Risk Detector Dog (HRDD) Program.

Responsible for refused entry, suspension, and regulatory significant specimen report documentation including, compiling the information needed to complete the notification and creating the official notification.

Responsible for maintaining import notification databases and informing plant inspection personnel. Tracks and reports the conclusion of inspections.

Maintains appropriate records for data retrieval, maintains proper records of all functions, and will submit those records in a timely and accurate manner. Prepares and assists with the preparation of quarterly, annual and other reports as required by the department and related agencies.

Maintains a current working knowledge of state and federal plant regulatory import regulations relating to import inspection activities. Researches current regulations and provides information to resolve issues that arise with shipments of agricultural commodities imported into Florida. This includes assisting with resolving import related inquiries from the public.

Participates in emergency programs to assist in reviewing, organizing, editing and entering program activity data. Completes summary data and distributes reports as directed.

Responsible for reviewing and maintaining data related to master permits.

Assists and participates in training for new inspectors as well as ongoing training activities within the program area to develop skills and correct deficiencies. Attends meetings and workshops and gives presentations concerning the program.

Performs related work as directed by the Import Certification Specialist of Plant and Apiary Inspection.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Departmental policies and procedures, and of general office procedures and practices.

  • Knowledge in state purchasing and invoice processing.

  • Skill in data entry and retrieval.

  • Skill in telephone customer service.

  • Skilled in completing and maintaining accurate records.

  • Ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Ability to follow directions both written and verbal.

  • Ability to use computer hardware and software such as Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to learn internal system software.

  • Ability to use photocopy and fax machines.

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate information and work assignments.
