Description

Position Summary:

Schedule and receive food and beverage deliveries, checking delivery contents to verify product quality and quantity. Prepare and serve meals on designated hot food days. Monitor and maintain food pantry, prepare food pantry bags for distribution to program participants, and assist with general cleanliness of facility.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan menus and food utilization based on anticipated number of guests, nutritional value, palatability, popularity, and costs.

  • Maintain food and equipment inventories and keep inventory records.

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and pantry areas, as well as the general facility cleanliness.

  • Review work procedures and operational problems to determine ways to improve service, performance, and/or safety.

  • Keep records required by government agencies regarding sanitation, and food subsidies when appropriate.

  • Ensure economical use of food and timely preparation.

  • Monitor compliance with health and fire regulations regarding food preparation and serving and building maintenance in lodging and dining facilities.

  • Maintain and rotate kitchen inventory regularly

  • Provide role modeling in the areas of appropriate communication and interaction with consumers and peers.

  • Completes all orientation and mandated training activities, including E-Learning Courses, within required timeframes, and in accordance with the criteria established for this position.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

Certifications/Licensures:

  • Completion of Certified Professional Food Handlers Program.

    Education:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) is required

    Experience and Competencies:

  • Must have 2 to 3 years’ experience culinary experience or in an intuitional food service setting.

  • Must be dependable and have ability to follow directions, work cooperatively with others and provide minimum levels of supervision.

  • Bilingual is preferred.

  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, and an annual Tuberculosis test.

  • Clearance in Pre-Employment Drug Testing and Criminal Records Checks, as required.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion

  • Practices safe and proper knife and kitchen utensil skills.

  • Knowledge of commercial food equipment, appliances, and tools, ensuring cleanliness and functional operation upon inspection

  • Knowledge of techniques and equipment for preparing food products for consumption, including storage/handling techniques.

  • Skill in watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure an appliance is working properly.

  • Ability to apportion food supplies based on estimates of future needs

  • Ability to cook foodstuffs according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served.

  • Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.

  • Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period without being distracted

  • Ability to manage one’s own time and the time of others

  • Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to give and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram/numerical form;

  • Work is primarily performed in an office/community-based center setting

    The employee must be able to perform the following essential duties and activities with or

    Physical Demands:

  • Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office, residential, or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, and working with files).

  • Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, clients, patients, and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.

  • Requires seeing: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance. This factor is required to complete paperwork for many of the employee’s essential job functions and to observe client behavior and activities in and out of the facility.

  • The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues. However, exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be readily available to every employee.
